Next Rangers Manager Odds: Martin Still Favourite To Replace Beleaguered Clement

Rangers’ slim hopes of catching Celtic in the title race suffered another blow at the weekend when they were held by Hibernian.

Gers headed to the capital in buoyant mood after crushing the Hoops 3-0 in their first game of 2025, but wasted 2-0 and 3-2 leads in a 3-3 draw at Easter Road to increase the pressure on beleaguered manager Philippe Clement.

The Light Blues are Celtic’s nearest challengers in second place, but are 13 points adrift of their Old Firm rivals.

Betting sites are weighing up potential replacements for the Belgian, who continues with the fight to save his job, having overseen just three wins in 10 games away from home this season.

Martin Remains Favourite For Ibrox Job

There's never a good time to be sacked in football, but Martin's departure from Southampton might just work in the manager's favour.

Martin was dismissed immediately after his side were hammered 5-0 by Tottenham on home soil in mid-December.

Having guided Saints to promotion by beating Leeds in the play-off final in May, Martin will be monitoring the situation at his former club Rangers closely.

The defender spent the second half of the 2017/18 season at Ibrox on loan from Norwich, as Rangers finished third. 

Martin is the 7/5 favourite on football betting sites to resume his managerial career immediately.

Steve Cooper Is Now Available 

Steve Cooper is a manager currently available after being sacked by Leicester following a 2-1 home defeat by Chelsea in November.

No compensation will have to be made if Rangers were to consider Cooper to replace Clement.

Cooper's time in charge of the Foxes lasted just 12 games and Rangers might be wary of why he wasn't given longer at the King Power Stadium. 

If Rangers do respect Cooper as a manager, then he is available at 2/1.

Time For McInnes To Get His Chance?

Derek McInnes has been linked with the Rangers job for a number of years and it might be his time to lead the team.

Kilmarnock's four-game unbeaten run ended with a 1-0 defeat at Hibernian in their final game of 2024 which came just three days after they had crushed Aberdeen 4-0 at Rugby Park.

The former Rangers midfielder further enamoured himself to the Ibrox faithful with his criticism of those Celtic fans who disrupted the Remembrance Sunday silence in November.

McInnes, who is 11/5 on betting apps, was at Rangers for five seasons from 1995 to 2000, helping them win the treble in 1999. 

Earlier this season, McInnes' Kilmarnock beat Rangers 1-0, a result that reminded the Rangers board how good a manager he is. 

Killie are going through a sticky patch and lost 1-0 at home to Ross County on Sunday, but McInnes remains in high regard by Rangers supporters.

Muscat Remains In The Mix

Kevin Muscat made 29 appearances for Rangers in 2002/03, his only season with the club. 

That turned out to be a memorable campaign at Ibrox, as the Gers won the Premiership, the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup.

Muscat, who is 3/1 to replace Clement, took his first steps in management with a six-year spell at Australian A-League side Melbourne Victory where he replaced Ange Postecoglou, now with Tottenham.

He has been in charge of Shanghai Port since December last year, after leading Yokohama F. Marinos to J1 League glory in 2022.

However, Muscat might not be ready to leave Shanghai as they are still involved in the Asian Champions League.

O'Neil Would Be A Good Fit At Ibrox

Gary O'Neil is another manager freshly out of a job, after being sacked following Wolves' 2-1 loss to Ipswich at Molineux recently.

O'Neil may decide to take a break from management, but if he wants to get back in a job as soon as possible, the Rangers job might appeal to him. 

The fact he is now available makes him a very attractive candidate to replace Clement, if the Rangers board decide to move on from the Belgian.

O'Neil won't be out of work for long and he is currently 7/2 to get the Rangers job.

Could Ibrox Be Solskjaer's Next Home?

It's been three years since we last saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in management. 

His time in charge of Manchester United didn't end the way he would have wanted, but it is worth noting that he finished second and third during his time in charge. 

Managing the Red Devils would be good preparation for running a club like Rangers, where every decision is also scrutinised. 

Solskjaer is 4/1 to answer the call from Ibrox to be their next manager.

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson is high on the list of candidates to replace Clement and Rangers might consider getting in touch with the Northern Irishman.

Robinson has been linked with the job for quite a while and he recently quipped that might have been driven by his sons.

Joking aside, Robinson deserves to be in the conversation after making St Mirren a tough team to beat. 

Robinson is 9/2 to be Rangers' next manager after guiding Saints to an historic 2-1 win over the Ibrox side on Boxing Day, and he remains on course to deliver a third successive top-six finish despite three successive defeats. 

Gerrard Might Welcome An Ibrox Return

Celtic have dominated the top flight in Scotland, winning the title in 12 of the last 13 seasons. 

The season they didn't win it was when Steven Gerrard guided Rangers to a rare title. 

Gerrard left the following season to become Aston Villa manager and is currently in charge of Saudi side Al-Ettifaq.

The club appointed Michael Beale as his assistant, which might keep Gerrard in Saudi Arabia for the foreseeable future. 

A return to Ibrox, where the fans love him, cannot be ruled out. Sooner or later Gerrard will want to return to the UK and knowing the club as well as he does, he might be tempted if Rangers move on from Clement.

Benitez Is Available For Rangers Job

Rafael Benitez has been out of a job since leaving Celta Vigo in March after a poor run of results. 

The Spaniard loves a challenge and will consider most jobs that need a manager of his calibre, and Rangers fit the bill.

Benitez enjoyed success south of the border with Liverpool and he would be seen as a hero if he can deliver the good times back to Ibrox, but his odds have drifted from 5/2 to 6/1 in recent weeks.

Gareth Southgate may be ready to return to football management after stepping down following England's defeat to Spain in the final of Euro 2024 in Germany.

Southgate (8/1) is in a position where he can wait for the opportunity that feels right to him. 

Managing one of the Old Firm clubs is right up there with the England job in terms of scrutiny into every decision made.

Henrik Rydstrom may not be a familiar name in Glasgow, but he is one of the brightest managers in Scandinavia right now. 

Rydstrom guided Malmo to the Swedish title for the second successive season and the time might be right for him to accept a bigger challenge. 

Despite losing 2-0 at home to the Scottish giants in this season's Europa League, the Rangers job is an attractive job for any aspiring manager.

The Swede has gone from 3/1 to 12/1 to be the next Rangers manager.
