Aaron Ramsdale Next Club Odds: Where Next For The Out-Of-Favour Keeper
Aaron Ramsdale is no longer Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper and UK betting sites have opened a market related to his future.
The England international was a key part of the team that challenged for the Premier League title last term, but he has since been replaced as Arsenal’s No.1 by David Raya.
Ramsdale is not content with his situation and could seek pastures new as early as January, with the transfer market set to reopen for business on New Year’s Day.
Where will Ramsdale be plying his trade come February? Let’s take a look at the odds.
Arsenal Stay Still Most Likely Outcome
According to football betting sites, Arsenal are most likely to be Ramsdale’s employers in the second month of 2023.
They are priced at 1/2 to keep hold of the goalkeeper, who only moved to the Emirates Stadium in 2021.
Ramsdale is a popular figure in the Arsenal dressing room and he is also well liked by the club’s supporters.
Moreover, although it is clear Mikel Arteta prefers Raya, he will not want to lose a very competent No.2 midway through the season.
Yet an exit is far from impossible, especially if Ramsdale were to submit a formal transfer request at some point in January.
Chelsea May Look To Upgrade From Sanchez
Chelsea loaned out Kepa Arrizabalaga in the summer and snapped up Robert Sanchez as his replacement.
Still, the feeling persists that the Blues will look to upgrade on the Spaniard at some point - after all, he was only deemed good enough to be Brighton & Hove Albion’s No.2 last term.
Chelsea will no doubt be among the clubs keeping tabs on Ramsdale’s situation and may eye a winter swoop.
Whether Arsenal would be willing to sell any player to their London rivals is up for debate, though. Even so, Chelsea are the second-favourites on betting apps at a price of 3/1 as things stand.
Newcastle Could Be In Market For New Goalkeeper
Newcastle United recently lost Nick Pope to injury, with the England international joining their lengthy list of absentees.
Pope is expected to be out until April with a shoulder problem, but it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Newcastle will have to make do without him until next season.
Eddie Howe will no doubt be looking to bring in another option in January, with Martin Dubravka holding the fort until then.
The Magpies are available at 9/2 to land Ramsdale, who would no doubt welcome the chance to join a club with top-four aspirations.
Wolves And West Ham Among The Outsiders
Ramsdale would no doubt prefer to join a club capable of challenging for Champions League qualification this season.
But he will also be looking to sign for a team where he is likely to be the first-choice goalkeeper, so he may need to accept a slight drop in status.
Wolverhampton Wanderers (16/1) could be one option, although it is not clear whether Gary O’Neil would prefer Ramsdale to Jose Sa, the incumbent.
West Ham United (20/1) looks even less probable when you consider they already have Lukasz Fabianski and Alphonse Areola competing for the No.1 jersey at the London Stadium.
Manchester United Will Stick With Onana For Now
Manchester United are listed as an option in this market, with the latest odds giving them a 25/1 chance of acquiring Ramsdale. However, it is hard to see this one happening for two main reasons.
The first relates to Arsenal, who will not want to sell the England international to a rival. The second concerns United, who splashed out big money on Andre Onana in the summer.
True, the Cameroon international has had a mixed start to his career at Old Trafford, but he is still settling in and United will not give up on him just yet.
Bournemouth Or Sheffield United Return Unlikely
Bournemouth and Sheffield United are also available at 25/1 with Bet365 Of course, those are the two clubs Ramsdale represented on a full-time basis before his move to the Emirates Stadium two and a half years ago.
Bournemouth would no doubt welcome Ramsdale back to the south coast, with the current No.1 Neto set to turn 35 next summer.
Sheffield United would also greet Ramsdale with open arms, but the goalkeeper will not want to join a club that looks set to suffer relegation to the Championship this season.
