Next Bristol City Manager Odds: Gerhard Struber Emerges As New Favourite

Bristol City are looking for a new manager after Liam Manning departed Ashton Gate to take charge at Norwich, and former Barnsley boss Gerhard Struber is now favourite to replace him according to betting sites.
Manning had been in charge at the club since November 2023 and led the Robins to the Championship play-offs, only to lose 6-0 on aggregate to Sheffield United.
Chairman Jon Lansdown said: “We are disappointed to lose Liam after such a successful campaign.
“I would like to place on record my thanks to Liam for his hard work and commitment over the past 18 months, and the memories we have made together, and wish him and his family all the best for the future.
“We are assessing all options as we look to replace Liam.”
Bristol City’s board now has a crucial decision to make. While Manning oversaw clear progress, the heavy play-off loss highlighted issues with squad depth and in-game management.
Bringing in a manager with promotion experience or a fresh voice with a defined playing philosophy will be key to moving forward.
Let’s take a look at those in the running and the next Bristol City manager odds offered by football betting sites.
Struber Heads The Market
Struber is currently the frontrunner in the next Bristol City manager market, priced at 2/1.
Struber spent just under a year in charge at Oakwell, guiding the Tykes to Championship survival during the 2019/20 season before departing in October 2020.
He later held positions with Red Bull-affiliated clubs, including New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Salzburg, before taking over at Cologne in Germany’s second tier ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Cologne have since secured their return to the German top flight, but Struber will be eager to get back to the dugout and prove his credentials once again.

Edwards A Leading Candidate
Although Rob Edwards has experienced back-to-back relegations in his last two seasons with Luton, he was also the manager who guided them to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2023.
Edwards first rose to prominence after leading Forest Green Rovers to the League Two title in 2022, and went on to earn widespread acclaim for taking the Hatters to the top flight.
While Luton initially showed glimpses of competitiveness in the Premier League, their form eventually declined, leading to a return to the Championship.
Since parting ways with the club in January, Edwards will be eager to rebuild his reputation as a top manager, and Bristol City could provide the ideal platform for him to do so.
He is currently 3/1 second-favourite for the job, according to betting apps.
Wellens Deserves Better
Richie Wellens has spent much of his managerial career in the lower tiers of the Football League, but the time may now be right for him to take on a challenge at a higher level.
The Leyton Orient manager guided his side to the League One play-offs last season, narrowly missing out on promotion after a 1-0 defeat to Charlton in the final.
Wellens’ attacking brand of football is easy on the eye and would likely be a welcome addition at Ashton Gate. The 45-year-old is currently 4/1 to take over at Bristol City this summer.
Carrick On The Market
Michael Carrick is currently without a club following his dismissal by Middlesbrough after narrowly missing out on the play-offs last season.
Despite the setback, Carrick’s managerial reputation remains largely untarnished. He initially took over with Boro languishing in 21st place in the Championship and led a notable turnaround.
Doing something similar with a club the size of Bristol City isn't out of the question and the former Manchester United midfielder is considered an 8/1 chance for the role.

Challinor To Get His Chance?
Dave Challinor has emerged as a contender for the Bristol City job after transforming Stockport County in recent seasons.
Since taking over in 2021, he has earned promotions in 2022 and 2024, and reached the League One play-offs last season.
Over a 15-year managerial career, Challinor has achieved seven promotions with four clubs and has never finished outside the play-off places in any full season, and can be backed at 8/1 to be the next Bristol City boss.
Elsewhere, City's current goalkeeping coach Pat Mountain is also 8/1, with Sturm Graz manager Jurgen Saumel (10/1), Steven Gerrard (12/1) and Swedish coach Benny Lennartsson (14/1) also in the frame.
