Missouri Sports Betting To Begin Dec. 1, Chairman Tells Gambling.com

In Missouri, legal sports betting must begin by Dec. 1—and will not start before then, the top state gaming regulator says.

That means bettors in Missouri will be able to wager on some late-season Kansas City Chiefs games and the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl. On a weekly basis, NFL games are the most heavily wagered events in the country.

“With all of the processing of the applications (for potential sports betting operators) and extensive background investigations that need to take place, the staff of the Missouri Gaming Commission doesn’t feel that sports wagering can begin before the Dec. 1st deadline,” Jan Zimmerman, Missouri Gaming Commission chairman, told Gambling.com on Thursday.

When wagering begins, people who are at least 18 years old will be able to place legal sports bets in person at brick-and-mortar sportsbooks or with the use of mobile devices such as cellphones and computers. Last November, Missouri voters approved sports betting with the requirement that it begin no later than Dec. 1, 2025.

“The most important responsibility we have is getting it right, making sure that people who are applying for licenses and ultimately would be issued a license are appropriate for licensure," Zimmerman said.

She added that “there are all sorts of requirements about criminal history and financial background and all of those things.”

Kansas City Chiefs Key Dates After Dec. 1

Below are the Kansas City Chiefs' regular-season games that will be available to bettors in Missouri after Dec. 1. At the end of the regular season, NFL playoff games and the Super Bowl also will be available to bettors. Super Bowl LX is set for Feb. 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. That stadium is the home of the San Francisco 49ers.
