Odds to Win the 2021 MLS Cup
Reigning champions Columbus Crew didn’t make the MLS Cup this year. That has blown the market wide open, with several teams vying for favouritism in the MLS Cup betting odds.
Seattle Sounders and Los Angeles FC are the sportsbooks’ favorites going into the November tournament. Does +700 tempt you to win the MLS Cup 2021?
Remember, you don’t just have to bet on futures markets. You’ll be able to back the moneyline, point spread or total goals markets on every single fixture. You can also bet on parlays and combine multiple wagers on a single bet slip. You’ll also be able to bet in-play as the game goes on. Bet on the next goalscorer or team to lead at half-time: the choice is yours!
New England Revolution
New England Revolution finished top of the Eastern Conference, losing just five games during the season. They finished 19 points ahead of the chasing pack and come into the MLS Cup with just one loss in five – 1-0 against Inter Miami FC.
That loss didn’t tell the whole story, however. Revolution had 16 shots on target and 66% of possession, as well as 10 corners to Inter’s 2.
New England will take on either New York City FC or Atlanta United in the Conference semi-final. Given New England won both fixtures against those sides during the season, expect them to win comfortably and reach the Eastern Conference final.
Colorado Rapids
Colorado Rapids won the Western Conference in style, pipping Seattle Sounders FC after finishing with three wins out of their last four games. No wonder, then, that Colorado are one of the sportsbook favourites with the best odds of around +600.
Colorado Rapids will start their MLS Cup campaign in the Conference Semis against the winner of Portland Timbers vs Minnesota United FC. Portland would prove to be the tougher opponent, who come into the MLS Cup off the back of three straight wins.
Seattle Sounders
Seattle’s fortunes may rest with Raul Ruidiaz, who finished the 2021 season with 17 goals – good enough for third in the season list. Ruidiaz scored three times in his final two games of the season. If he can continue that form against Real Salt Lake, Seattle should prove a match against Vancouver or Sporting Kansas City in the semi-final.
Certainly, Ruidiaz’s goal-scoring form seems to impress the bookmakers. You can get MLS Cup odds of 600+ on the Seattle Sounders to lift the trophy in December.
Philadelphia Union
Philadelphia Union might only be +1200 in the MLS Cup odds but they have the talent to go all the way. They’ll have to get past a resilient New York Red Bulls side first, who have only lost once in their last five games. However, the Red Bulls don’t score a lot of goals, and Union were very good in their last outing against New York City FC.
New York City FC
If you want to back a New York team in the MLS Cup odds markets, look no further than New York City FC. NYCFC finished fourth in the Eastern Conference and were unbeaten in their last five games. In addition, NYCFC can count on Valentin Castellanos, the MLS joint-top scorer for the season on 19.
New York FC’s biggest problem is the draw. They will play city rivals New York Red Bulls if they can get past Atlanta United. The winner of that clash would arguably decide who takes on the Western Conference champ in the MLS Cup Final on December 11.
Sporting Kansas City
Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the winner of Seattle Sounders vs Real Salt Lake stand in Sporting Kansas City’s way to the Western Conference Finals. Things could have been a whole lot different had Kansas not lost the last three games of the regular season to blow their chances of winning the Conference. That let in Colorado Rapids who took top spot ahead of Seattle Sounders FC.
A lot will rest on the shoulders of Daniel Salloi. He was on the losing side in the last five games he played in, failing to score once. Even if Sporting get past Vancouver, they will find Seattle Sounders much stiffer opposition in the Conference semis.
Nashville SC
Nashville could be the dark horses in the latest MLS Cup odds. They are as high as +2000 with some sportsbooks but they finished third in the Eastern Conference ahead of New York City FC. Nashville also avoid the New England Revolution and New York City FC in their part of the draw.
In addition, Nashville SC can rely on the goals of Hany Muktar. The German star scored three times in his last five games, plus two assists in the 6-3 win against FC Cincinnati.
Portland Timbers
The sportsbooks don’t treat Portland Timbers well in the latest MLS odds. They are currently trading at around +1300, and with good reason: the Western Conference side will come up against Colorado Rapids in the semi-final should they manoeuvre past Minnesota in Round One.
That contest should be a given for Portland who come into the MLS Cup off the back of three straight wins. However, Colorado ran out 1-0 and 2-0 winners respectively in their two games against Portland this season. If you don’t want to back Portland Timbers in the futures betting, a correct score wager with your free bets may be the solution.
Atlanta United
Atlanta United actually come into the MLS Playoffs with some of the best form. They are unbeaten in five, including wins against Cincinnati and draws against New York City and New York Red Bulls.
Josef Martinez has 11 goals and will be relied upon for goals but the smart wagers are Total Goals (O/U): there have been Under 2.5 goals in five of the last six Atlanta games.
Should Atlanta United overcome New York City FC in Round One of the Playoffs, New England Revolution await. That may be an MLS Cup tie too far.
Vancouver Whitecaps
Vancouver Whitecaps FC are the only Canadian team to make it to this year’s MLS Playoffs. That may be the only unique thing about this British Columbia side in 2021. Vancouver finished 6th in the Western Conference, 12 points behind Colorado Rapids. However, they do come off the back of some decent form – two wins and a draw in five.
Seattle Sounders are Vancouver’s biggest threat in the Western Conference Playoffs should they get past Sporting Kansas City. A small futures bet on Vancouver making the MLS Cup final could represent value, especially if Brian White can be relied upon to build on his season total of 12 goals.
Orlando City
Orlando City
Former Manchester United star, Nani, and Daryl Dike are the stars Orlando City will be counting on to help them propel Orlando City to the MLS Cup final. Orlando City should have too much for Nashville SC, plus they avoid New England Revolution in their part of the draw.
Orlando vs New England for a place in the MLS Cup final? +3600 may be tempting odds for the Florida side to lift the cup on December 11.
Minnesota United
It might be snowing in Minnesota, but “The Loons” won’t mind if their team somehow make the MLS Cup final in December.
Minnesota are lucky to be in the Playoffs at all. They managed to make it into the Western Conference Playoffs on the very last game, a 3-3 draw against LA Galaxy. A loss and LA Galaxy would have been in the MLS Cup draw.
The MLS Cup odds reflect the enthusiasm for The Loons. They are +3600 and even at that price, there isn’t too much value to be found.
NY Red Bulls
The Red Bulls Metro could be pulling into the winner’s station come December if the Playoffs go their way. They are much less fancied than their New York rivals across the city and hung onto 7th place in the Eastern Conference with a final-day draw against Nashville.
Goals are a big problem for the Red Bulls. They only scored 39 all season – one of the worst returns in the MLS in 2021 – and Patryk Klimala finished top scorer on a measly 8 goals. A Round One tie against Philadelphia Union should prove the end of the Red Bulls’ involvement this year.
Real Salt Lake
Let’s end on the rank outsiders in the MLS Cup odds. You’d be lucky to get +5000 in the online sportsbook betting, and even if you have a healthy welcome bonus, it’s probably best-saved for another team.
Real Salt Lake squeaked into 7th in the Western Conference with a final-day win against Sporting Kansas City. It was a dramatic end to the game with Damir Kreilach scoring a 95th-minute winner.
Kreilach scored 16 goals during the season, and Real Salt Lake will need to call upon their talisman again if they are to get past Seattle Sounders in Round One.
