Best Bet To Win Canadian Grand Prix
The Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday in Montreal comes at an interesting point of the Formula 1 season.
Porpoising has been a key topic this year, as teams struggle with their cars bouncing down the straights in high-speed sections. This has resulted in several drivers complaining about fatigue and injury from being tossed around in their cars.
Due to the surge of this issue, the FIA announced it will introduce measures to investigate the planks and skids underneath the cars in terms of design and observed wear. The FIA also will define a metric to determine a limit for the “acceptable level of vertical oscillations.”
Looking Ahead
All of this means the FIA might introduce guidelines that could shake up the grid order this season, which has seen Red Bull and Ferrari dominate so far.
It remains to be seen what kind of new regulations will be enforced, but, unsurprisingly, Red Bull and Ferrari are not fans of the changes.
“Regardless for me, whether it’s going to help us or working against, these rule changes in the middle of the year, I don’t think it’s correct,” Red Bull driver and points leader Max Verstappen said. “Of course I understand the safety part of it, but I think if you talk to every engineer in the paddock, if you raise the car you will have less issues anyways ... But I don’t think it’s correct that now they have to intervene and start applying these types of rules that if you can’t deal with porpoising that you have to go up on the ride height.”
If the FIA decides to enforce new rules this weekend, it could change the running order and affect sports betting odds at Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix.

Only Red Bull and Ferrari have the race pace to win consistently, but it’s hard to want to back Ferrari given its latest reliability issues.
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were forced to retire last weekend in Baku. It was the first time since 2009 that Ferrari suffered a double DNF because of reliability failures. Leclerc also had to retire from the Spanish Grand Prix, and Ferrari’s customer teams, Haas and Alfa Romero, had three failures between them over the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
“I’m not surprised, but certainly concerned and disappointed because those are things that we need to try to fix and we haven’t yet,” Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto said of the reliability problems. “I cannot blame the team because I know how much work they have been putting in to address the performance deficit from the past.”
Red Bull has been able to take advantage of Ferrari’s misfortune, winning the last five races, with Verstappen, pictured, taking four victories and Sergio Perez winning the Monaco Grand Prix.
Mostly due to Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’ dominance, Verstappen has never won at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
Hamilton has won four of the last five races here with Sebastian Vettel victorious for Ferrari as the lone other win. But with Hamilton and Mercedes struggling to find pace and Ferrari’s reliability issues, Verstappen is the best bet for the win this weekend.
