The NHL announced on Thursday that BetMGM and FanDuel have become official partners with the hockey league.

This partnership means a lot for the league, especially considering that Ontario sports betting just started this week.

Here, we’ll run through the partnership and what this means for the NHL, FanDuel, and BetMGM.

What The Expanded Partnership Means For BetMGM

The NHL announced the partnership on the expansion of their multi-year deal that makes now makes BetMGM Sportsbook an official North American partner.

This will now include a plethora of turn-key experiences and hospitality assets for all tied to the upcoming Stanley Cup playoffs and keying in Ontario and all of Canada.

This expanded partnership will include leaning on some Canadian hockey staples.

“Our existing partnership with the NHL accelerated our ability to reach hockey fans and has allowed us to deliver an enhanced hockey wagering product,” CEO Adam Greenblatt said in a news release. “Expanding our partnership with the NHL throughout North America, aligned with our recent launch in Ontario, puts us in a great position for long-term success in Canada.

“We’re excited to further our relationship with the NHL, including incorporating some of its all-time greats from Wayne Gretzky to Connor McDavid into our brand marketing.”

It sets up BetMGM Canada Sportsbook to gain a further foothold into the Ontario as well as Canadian markets.

Their success on the American stage has been well documented. With custom content and designations, BetMGM will provide the conduit to more responsible sports betting in the Canadian markets.

BetMGM, headquartered in New Jersey, now has parlayed its pioneer status in the industry into a comprehensive partnership with the NHL that preaches responsibility along with all the benefits that sports betting has to offer.

FanDuel Increases Partnership Status With The NHL

Also included in the FanDuel expanded partnership with the NHL is its Daily Fantasy and sports betting operations in Ontario.

There was some fear that FanDuel might shut down that part of that operation or halt things.

“We are delighted to expand our partnership with the NHL to include all of North America as our business grows into Canada with the launch of the Ontario market,” Amy Howe, CEO of FanDuel Group, said in the release.

“This partnership has allowed the NHL and FanDuel to collaborate and become true innovators in sports betting with initiatives like the NHL Network's first-ever Odds Ticker and custom NHL sports betting content for social media.”

FanDuel Canada Sportsbook, similar to BetMGM, can now engage in more fan-friendly promotions to market and draw more eyes to their brand right as the Stanley Cup playoffs are about to start in a few weeks.

FanDuel is based in New York but has offices across several states in the U.S. The company has a presence in all 50 states and the 17 million residents of Ontario.

The agreement also allows them to promote their safe wagering programs.
