Betting Odds: Toronto Blue Jays Look To Stay In Wild Card Race
Toronto is 301.0 to win the American League East at BetMGM Sportsbook
The Blue Jays are 351.0 to win the division at DraftKings Sportsbook
The American League's Toronto Blue Jays (73-61) head into a weekend series against the National League-worst Colorado Rockies (49-84), hoping to make up ground in the MLB wild card race.
Faced with a fan base that had higher expectations this season, Toronto is 2.5 games behind the Texas Rangers in the wild card hunt.
Pitching Has Been Successful
With a payroll over $200 million, the Blue Jays at one point were considered a pick to win the World Series, led by Vlad Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, Kevin Kiermaer, George Springer, Matt Chapman, Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios Chris Bassitt and Jordan Romano.
While the pitching has excelled – league leaders in team ERA - the hitting, especially with runners in scoring position, has faltered, with the Jays sitting down with the lowly Oakland A’s and Kansas City Royals in hitting.
Futures Betting Odds
It’s been a strange season for the Blue Jays, despite the team being 12 games above .500.
The futures betting odds reflect that.
After the Jays stumbled recently, bookmakers seem to have lost faith in the team. Last week, Toronto was 21.0 to win the division, but this week fell to 301.0 at BetMGM Sportsbook.
At DraftKings Sportsbook the Jays are 351.0 to win the AL East.
With 28 regular-season games to play, the Jays World Series odds aren’t much better – 21.00 at BetMGM and 31.0 at DraftKings.
Do Or Die For The Jays
On Friday against the Rockies (8:40 p.m. ET) the Jays have LHP Hyun Jin Ryu (3-1, 2.25 ERA) starting against RHP Chris Flexen (1-6, 6.94 ERA).
DraftKings has the moneyline at Jays 1.52, Rockies 2.60, and the runline at Jays -1.5 (1.82) and Colorado +1.5 (2.02).
Going into this weekend, there’s no more runway available - it’s a series sweep or bust for the Blue Jays. DraftKings has the team at 2.10 to make the playoffs.
