Bills One of the Big NFL Storylines Coming Out of Week 14
The Buffalo Bills’ (7-6) 20-17 upset win over the Kansas City Chiefs (8-5) yesterday was one of four headline-making games and has bettors asking hard questions with just four weekends of NFL games to go.
The Chicago Bears (5-8) 28-13 win over the Detroit Lions (9-4), the Dallas Cowboys (10-3) 33-13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles (10-3), and the Cleveland Browns’ (8-5) 31-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars (8-5) were the other big storylines.
The Chiefs have lost three of their past four games. The Lions are showing cracks, the Eagles have lost two in a row. Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence was coming off a high ankle sprain and threw three interceptions yesterday.
Troubling Times for the Bills
The Bills? Talk about a roller coaster. After a week where their coach Sean McDermott was the subject of negative media reports and social media chatter, including some personal attacks, and all-star rusher Von Miller was being investigated for allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, the Bills rolled into Kansas City as betting underdogs, and out of a playoff spot. Some people had them as Super Bowl favourites going into the season.
Yesterday though they got a herculean effort from quarterback Josh Allen – 23/42, 233 yards, one touchdown, one rushing TD, and the one interception. The controversial offside call on Kadarius Toney that negated the Chiefs’ go-ahead touchdown late in the game was the big story from that game.
Storylines for the Bills – their defense came through with the game on the line, especially with Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes with the ball in his hands, 1:54 and two timeouts lefts. The Bills have four losses this season where they had leads in the fourth quarter. In this game though the Bills forced a turnover on downs – led by DT Ed Oliver swatting down a Mahomes’ pass and pressure on another play by Miller forcing an incompletion.
