CFL Game of the Week Pick

British Columbia Lions 2.90 at Winnipeg Blue Bombers 1.43

Last week was a case of two out of three, ain’t bad. The spread and first to 10 covered pretty quickly for Toronto, but the Over felt a whisker short as both teams quit scoring in the second half. Few could have expected that. Winnipeg and British Columbia may light up the scoreboard.

For Canadian Sports Bettors, Zach Collaros has been on fire early as expected, as Winnipeg’s balanced offense continues to cause matchup nightmares. Now, they are at home, where the Blue Bombers are even better. This was a team who could score 30+ points at will last season.

British Columbia has been more stingy on defense to start the season. They allowed a mere 15 points in Week 1 at Saskatchewan. Then, the Lions shut out Edmonton in Week 2. Yes, beating the Elks is not hard, but shutting a team out in the CFL is rare (BC’s last came in 1977 versus Toronto).

Winnipeg knows what it needs to do against British Columbia. Everyone remembers that early season matchup last year where Winnipeg ran off a huge first quarter, then cruised to a 43-21 win.

So, what can British Columbia do against Collaros in Winnipeg? That’s a great question. The favourite for Most Outstanding Player already has six touchdowns through two games and nearly 650 yards passing. His mobility looks OK after three solid scampers for 26 yards last week.

Expect British Columbia to try to slow down the game in Winnipeg. That early game was 21-0 after one and over last season. No matter what, a team cannot dig themselves that big a hole. British Columbia understands that, but Winnipeg is too good here. The Blue Bombers may cover the spread for the third week. Look at their team Over when it opens up as well.

Crazy Bet of the Week

Montreal Alouettes 2.18 at Hamilton Tiger-Cats 1.71

This is wild because hardly anyone expects Hamilton to start 2023 with an 0-3 record. Yet, the Tiger-Cats are a slight favourite here. The fun parts are how to get creative, err crazy, with our small wagers.

Montreal won its opener and went on the road in an East Division tussle that feels more vital early in the season for Hamilton. Add in the injury to Bo Levi Mitchell; this game carries some intrigue. Consider the spread slid down from 4.5 points to 2.5. In some places, it has dropped closer to Even.

Can Hamilton answer the bell after getting lit up in Weeks 1 and 2? The answer is unknown. No one expects a resounding game, but will the Tiger-Cats show us something, or do we see another first-half swoon like last season? Montreal is improved and will not back down.

Let’s take on that win outright at 2.18. After our crazy bet hitting last week with the 22-point margin of victory, let’s go a bit less nutty.
