How Should you Bet on Brooke Henderson at LPGA CP Women's Open
The LPGA Tour is back in Canada. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been three years since the last time. But now the LPGA is set to return this week to Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club.
Jin Young Ko is the defending champion of the event, winning by five strokes at Magna Golf Club in Aurora.
The tournament has traditionally been one of the marquee events on tour. In 1973, it was known as the du Maurier Classic and considered a major championship.
The CP Women’s Open has continued to draw some of the top players and this year is no different. Nine of the top 10 in the Race to the CME Globe Print Standings are scheduled to compete this weekend.
Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club is a par 72 course that plays 6,709 yards. Here’s a betting breakdown of the event.
Brooke Henderson Among the Favourites
The fan favourite will be Brooke Henderson, who enters in form this weekend and is one of the favourites at +1000 at DraftKings Sportsbook. The winningest golfer in Canadian history captured a major title win this year at the Amundi Evian Championship and has seven top 10 finishes in 15 starts this year.
“I'm super excited. It's really close to home this year so there will be lots of people, hopefully,” said Henderson, who grew up in nearby Smiths Falls, less than an hour's drive from the Club. “It's so much fun to have that much support and love from Canadian fans and to be able to play in front of them on home soil and just have the whole tour come and show them how we play every single week is pretty cool. I love the week, and I'm just really excited for it.”
Henderson has had success at this event, showing no nerves playing in her home country and appears motivated each time she tees it up at this tournament. She won the CP Women’s Open in 2018 by four strokes and managed to take third in 2019.
“It was a really fun week. I feel like I handled it really well,” Henderson said after taking third. “There were a lot of extra things I had to do, but overall, it was really fun. Just to be able to play well in front of all these people, and, you know hopefully, make their weekend a little bit better, that's all I really want.”
Nelly Korda Favoured, Coming Off a Win
The favourite at DraftKings is Nelly Korda at +900. Korda is coming off her first win of the season after shooting a 5-under 67 on Saturday to make up seven strokes on her sister, Jessica, to win the Aramco Team Series on the Ladies European Tour.
Nelly finished with a winning score of 13-under par.
"I haven't won this year, so it feels nice to get a win under my belt but I'm also very sad as it wasn't the day Jess was expecting," Nelly said. "I guess we were hoping for a bit more of a battle going down the stretch, but it's golf and that sometimes happens."
Former No. 1 Lydia Ko is also near the top of the odds board at +1000, while current No. 2 Minjee Lee is at +1100. Defending champion, Jin Young Ko is at +1600.
Best Bet
Let’s be honest: You’re probably going to bet Henderson.
And, really, it’s a solid wager.
She has finished first and third in this tournament the last two times she’s played in it and has seven Top 10s in 15 starts this year.
She’s in-form and appears motivated to perform well in front of her home crowd. I don’t think you can go wrong with betting on her.
