NHL Picks: Betting Advice for Big Game Between Toronto and Vegas
The NHL week starts with six games on Monday night. Ontario sports bettors should perk up at seeing Toronto and Edmonton in high-quality matchups tonight. The good news is that every Canadian team is rested.
Aside from the bigger games with Canadian implications, a couple of others should be paid attention to. Anyway, here we go.
Dallas Stars at Ottawa Senators
The Stars and Senators face off Monday, and this could be quite an entertaining matchup. Ottawa is starting to play better, and Dallas is currently one of the hottest teams in the NHL. At 4-0-1, the Stars have a goal differential of +12 behind Jake Oettinger. Oettinger is enjoying an excellent start in goal for Dallas.
The big problem for Ottawa is whether it can generate offence against Dallas. Indeed, Ottawa plays differently in Kanata. The Senators have won three straight games after starting the season 0-2.
Momentum has swung Ottawa’s way, but not when it comes to the betting line. The Senators stand as a modest 1.96 underdog; even their win-in-regulation number works at 2.30 (2.45 on BetMGM). Anton Forsberg still has not played beyond 60 minutes, which is excellent news for Canadian Sports Bettors.
Bettors in Canada should look at a moneyline like this. There is no reason to risk a puckline or even a reverse (alternate) puckline here.
These cross-conference matchups can be tricky, especially with both teams playing well. The Senators scoring first comes in at 2.25, which could prove another intriguing wager possibility.
Toronto Maple Leafs at Vegas Golden Knights
With five Canadian teams in action tonight, it was rough to pick a couple. We saved a crazy one just for the readers. That is the Toronto Maple Leafs. It is six games into the season, and Toronto fans are still scared. Beating Dallas and then Winnipeg has not calmed the fanbase down. That is saying something.
It often occurs in Toronto. The Maple Leafs have a test tonight, going to Vegas to face the Golden Knights. Toronto is playing better thanks to Ilya Samsonov in goal. The Russian goaltender has won four starts and allowed seven goals in those games.
How does that translate for tonight? Vegas plays at a high pace and tries to block shots to limit chances. Toronto will be patient.
The entertainment factor is certain. That 10 p.m. ET start should not dissuade bettors in the least. Canadian sports bettors should be keen on this game. It is a good early-season barometer of Toronto.
For the Golden Knights, look to Logan Thompson for the save prop. See where it sits. Now, 30 or better might be a worthwhile bet. Toronto is going to try and pepper the Vegas goaltender. They can penetrate the Vegas defense much as Colorado can. Toronto has to hit the net more often, as they did against Dallas and Winnipeg.
The 1.81 moneyline is not the greatest but dangling the 2.26 in-regulation number is enticing. If the Over stays at 6.5 goals, see if the number goes north of 1.75. If not, then pass.
Pittsburgh Penguins at Edmonton Oilers
Quickly, the Penguins are the most proficient scoring team in the NHL, even without Jake Guentzel. The Penguins have scored 26 times in five games. The Oilers are now on their homestand's sixth and final game. At 2-3, the Oilers desperately want to level their record as they head to the Midwest starting on Wednesday in St. Louis.
The puckline is a bit risky, so that is not our focus for Canadian sports bettors. Can Edmonton’s defence and goaltending slow down Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and company? Pittsburgh is facing a Connor McDavid-Leon Draisaitl duo struggling a little (by their standards). The shutout against St. Louis also left a sour taste in the Oilers’ mouths.
The Over at 6.5 goals is 1.74. Again, play safe and wait to see if that number swings to 7.0 before betting. Anything below 1.75 is just concerning. The Oilers at 2.08 to win in regulation seems like a safer wager. Look for that Connor McDavid over 1.5-point prop bet tonight. It should come in at a solid number.
