Who Will be the Toronto Maple Leafs Next General Manager? Here are the Odds
With hockey betting sites focused on Stanley Cup playoffs, in Toronto, the drama is off the ice.
Controversy is swirling around the firing of Kyle Dubas on Friday. Did Dubas over-extend when negotiating a new contract with team president Brendan Shanahan? Was Shanahan interfering with day-to-day hockey operations, and was Dubas looking for more autonomy?
Who knows? Now it’s about Dubas and Shanahan politicking to put them in their best respective positions — Dubas to land another hockey job, possibly with Pittsburgh, and Shanahan to attract the right candidate to run his hockey team.
The Leafs are under a gun in terms of timing. There’s a July 1 deadline to renegotiate a new deal with star centre Auston Matthews – and that needs to happen - the draft and free agency period is fast approaching, and they have to clear up any uncertainty about the future of head coach Sheldon Keefe.
Plus, there’s debate in some quarters with an argument that people need to focus more on winning regular season records over the past seven years. That ignores 56 years of overall ineptitude and the compounding effect of all that losing.
So Shanahan is in the line of fire now, with two years left on his contract, and will have to act fast to get someone new in there.
Here is a selection of odds this morning on who the new Leafs GM will be:
