When the Ontario gambling market launches on April 4, the province’s residents will eventually have the opportunity to play on one of the more well-known poker brands: World Series of Poker.

NSUS Limited, the parent company of GGPoker, received a licence from the Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission to operate in the Canadian province. But the domain for the license is for a new WSOP.ca skin, meaning WSOP is set to launch using GGPoker software.

“I’m thrilled that poker’s two greatest brands have come together to launch WSOP.CA and offer the Ontario poker community the perfect place to play online,” Daniel Negreanu, GGPoker Global Ambassador, said in a media release. “You’ll be seeing exclusive WSOP rewards and tournaments running on GGPoker’s amazing app. What’s not love about that?”

Launching in Ontario is the latest move in WSOP’s and GGPoker’s partnership. The two brands have worked together since 2020 and have brought WSOP bracelets to competitions across the world. The international series featuring WSOP bracelet events utilized GGPoker.

With online poker, Ontario residents will only be allowed to play against others who are also located within the province.

It’s still unclear whether WSOP will be ready for Ontario’s April 4 launch date. 888 Holdings, who was also approved for a sportsbook and online casino, plans to go live when Ontario’s new gaming market opens, giving the province’s residents at least one place to play online poker when these new sites and apps go live.

“We are delighted to have been awarded a license by the AGCO and look forward to launching in the market when it officially opens,” Itai Pazner, CEO of 888 Holdings, said in a media release. “As a Group, our focus is on strengthening our presence and offer to customers across key regulated markets. To that end, Ontario represents an attractive long-term growth opportunity for 888 and this is an extremely strategically important milestone for us.”

Partypoker and PokerStars have also shown interest in bringing their poker platforms to Ontario but have yet to receive a licence.

In addition to 888 Holdings and WSOP, here are the other operators that have been approved by the AGCO.
