The Orange Bowl forms one of the ‘New Year Six’ and one of the College Football Playoffs semifinals. The winner goes through to the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship to be played at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
This will be new territory for the two teams in this season’s Orange Bowl. Michigan haven’t competed in the game since 1976 and Georgia have never appeared in the Orange Bowl. In fact, neither Georgia nor Michigan have won a national title game since the early 2000s.
Despite the lack of titles for both sides, they come into the Orange Bowl ranked #3 (Georgia) and #2 (Michigan).
Betting on Georgia at the Orange Bowl
Let’s start our preview of Georgia vs Michigan with a look at the southern team. Georgia Bulldogs topped the East Division of the Southeastern Conference with an overall 12-1 record. They started their season well with six straight wins, performing particularly well against ranked teams. High-scoring games are what Georgia are about: they finished the conference season a 43-6 victory over Missouri and massive wins against Georgia Tech and Charleston.
Georgia lost the SEC Championship Game 41-24 against Alabama Crimson Tide but that doesn’t tell the whole story. They dominated the early part of the game but struggled to maintain that superiority in the second half. The defeat was seen as a big upset considering Georgia’s season up to that point. However, Alabama’s Bryce Young turned in a great performance with three touchdowns while Georgia’s excellent defense failed them.
Zamir White and quarterback Stetson Bennett will be the players to watch in this semi-final vs Michigan. Bennett secured over 2,300 passing yards in the season while White made 718 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
Experienced Georgia head coach Kirby Smart will be keen to hit the reset button for this game. Smart’s record at Georgia speaks for itself. He has a 64-15 overall record over his time at Georgia, plus one conference title. That’s the kind of record that should see Georgia reach the college football championship final.
Georgia Bulldogs to win (moneyline): -325 (SportNation)
Betting on Michigan at the Orange Bowl
Like Georgia, Michigan go into this Orange Bowl with an almost perfect record during the season. They ended 8-1 in the Big Ten and 12-1 overall to secure a #2 ranking for the College Football Playoff.
Michigan recovered from a coronavirus-decimated 2020 season (with a 2-4 record) and the firing of defensive coordinator Don Brown. Head coach Jim Harbaugh signed an extension and brought in over half a dozen coaching staff members. In particular, a new defensive coordinator came in, together with a defensive backs coach.
The results were immediate. Michigan lost only once – a tight 37-33 vs Michigan State – and ended the season with a 42-3 destruction of Iowa in the Big Ten Championship. Receivers Blake Corum and Hassan Hawkins were the standouts.
Cade McNamara was the standout quarterback during the season with 2,470 passing yards for a 64.6% completion rate. Hassan Haskins made 1,288 rushing yards and was instrumental in the 42-27 win over Ohio State Buckeyes in the run-in to the Big Ten Football Championship. He also scored two touchdowns in the demolition of Iowa in the Championship game.
Michigan Wolverines to win (moneyline): +255 (bet365)

Michigan are the Value MoneylineBet +255 @ bet365

Over 45.0 Total Points -110 @ bet365
The Orange Bowl odds for over 45 points seem too good to pass up. The past seven Orange Bowls have ended high-scoring, and Georgia have scored over 40 points in four of their past five games. Michigan, meanwhile have been free-scoring with their receivers on fire. This could be another high-scoring game.
Zamir White first touchdown +650 @ Unibet
Zamir White secured 10 touchdowns this season and goes into the Orange Bowl in great form. You can get +108 on White to score a touchdown at any time. However, the value on +650 for the first touchdown is too good to pass up.

Hassan Hawkins first touchdown +600 @ Unibet
While we’re talking first touchdowns, why not some more value on Michigan’s Hassan Hawkins? Hawkins was excellent in the Big Ten demolition of Iowa and the +600 on first touchdown is excellent. You can also back the bet up with -105 to score anytime.
