Betting on Kansas State at the Texas Bowl
Led by third-year head coach Chris Klieman, Kansas State’s season has been one of winning and losing streaks. You can see their streaky regular season below:
- Three straight wins (3–0)
- Three consecutive losses (3–3)
- Four straight wins (7–3)
- Two straight losses (7–5)
The sum of these streaks is a 7–5 record (4–5 Big 12) and a bowl game invitation. K-State brings a strong defense into this contest that’s holding opponents to 20.9 points (20th nationally) and 354.5 yards (36th) per game. Felix Anudike-Uzomah leads the defense with an impressive 11 sacks.
The Wildcats aren’t so adept on offense, averaging 25.9 points (76th) and 353.6 yards (97th) per game. QB Skylar Thompson has thrown for a pedestrian 1,854 yards, nine touchdowns, and four interceptions. RB Deuce Vaughn has put up the best numbers out of anybody, rushing for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Betting on LSU at the Texas Bowl
LSU came into the 2021 campaign with the No. 16 ranking and high hopes. It especially looked to be in good shape thanks to a favourable early schedule. However, a 38–27 loss to UCLA in the opener quickly shook up this team.
The Tigers would win their next three games, but they proceeded to lose five of their next six contests. LSU needed two straight victories over Louisiana-Monroe and Texas A&M to become eligible for bowl games. It finished the regular season with a 6–6 mark but finished last in the SEC West (3–5).
School officials announced that head coach Ed Orgeron would not be returning for the 2022 season. O-line coach Brad Davis will coach this team in the bowl game.
Orgeron’s departure isn’t the only aspect that leaves uncertainty. QB Max Johnson, who threw for 2,815 yards, 27 touchdowns, and six interceptions, is transferring to Texas A&M. Freshman QB Garrett Nussmeier will take over an offense that averages 26.5 points (70th) and 379.9 yards (77th). RB Tyrion Davis-Price (1,003 yards) will be relied on heavily as Nussmeier adjusts.
The LSU defense has been below average, giving up 27.0 points (64th) and 394.7 yards (71st) per game. It’ll need even more help with LB Damone Clark (136 tackles) leaving early to prepare for the 2022 NFL Draft.
2022 Texas Bowl Odds
Some of the new Canada sportsbooks have been offering Texas Bowl betting lines ever since the teams were announced on Dec. 5. Kansas State is the favourite heading into this contest because it isn’t missing any key players. LSU, meanwhile, faces both QB uncertainty and the loss of its best defensive player in Clark.
Texas Bowl Moneyline Odds
The moneyline lets you place a straight-up bet on which team will win the game. Of course, both teams are handicapped to spread betting action among the favourite and underdog. You can see the consensus moneyline on this contest below:
- LSU Tigers +146 (bet $100 to win $146)
- Kansas State Wildcats -172 (bet $172 to win $100)
K-State is 4–2 straight up (SU) in its last six games. Meanwhile, LSU is 3–5 SU in its past eight contests. You can find the moneyline for this game at STS and LeoVegas.

- Kansas State -3.5 (-115)
The Tigers have gone 5–7 against the spread (ATS), including 2–3 in their last five outings. The Wildcats are 6–6 ATS, including 3–2 in their last five games. If you’re interested in wagering on either team’s spread, you can do so at 888sport or MansionBet.

Who won the most Texas Bowls?
Texas A&M is the only team to win two Texas Bowls, doing so in 2011 and 2019. Either Kansas State or LSU is going to join A&M at the top, though, because they’ve both won one game. LSU won this bowl in 2015, and K-State followed suit in 2016.
Texas Bowl Betting Tips
You can easily bet on this game at the best online sportsbooks in Canada. Assuming you do wager on this matchup, then you might find the following tips helpful.
Kansas State -172
We like the Wildcats’ chances of winning due to how their key players will all be available. LSU, meanwhile, has too many questions for our tastes.
Kansas State -3.5 (-115)
We’re not in love with the -3.5 juice behind K-State’s point spread. Nevertheless, we still like them to win by at least four points over the Tigers, which lost their starting quarterback.
Over 48 (-105)
These teams average 52.4 points per game together. Neither school has a particularly strong defense either. Combine these aspects with the -105 juice, and we’re definitely taking the over here.
Race to 20 Points
Kansas State has a good chance to win this prop bet. Although not overly explosive on offense, it at least has its starting QB, RB, and top receivers available. LSU may come out slow with backup QB Garrett Nussmeier being thrust into action.
