Betting on Notre Dame at the Fiesta Bowl

Notre Dame is the odd team out of the College Football Playoff with an 11–1 record and No. 5 ranking. It lost to then-No. 7 Cincinnati on October 2nd before going on a seven-game win streak to end the regular season. A lack of victories over ranked opponents hurt Notre Dame’s quest for a playoff bid. Its only win over a ranked team was a 41–13 victory over then-No. 18 Wisconsin.

In any case, the Fighting Irish find themselves in one of the most-prestigious games in college football’s bowl season. The team will be playing its first game without head coach Brian Kelly in 12 years. Announced on Nov. 29, Kelly signed a 10-year, $95-million contract with LSU and has already departed.

At least Notre Dame can still rely on its star players. Running back Kyren Williams headlines the team with 1,002 rushing yards, 783 receiving yards, and 17 touchdowns. QB Jack Coan is also having a solid season with 2,641 passing yards, 20 TD passes, and six interceptions. DL Isaiah Foskey is the defensive star, having tallied 10 sacks on the year.

As a team, Notre Dame ranks 17th nationally with 35.3 points per game. It’s even better on defense, holding opponents to 18.3 points (10th nationally) and just 212.0 passing yards.

Betting on Oklahoma State at the Fiesta Bowl

Like Notre Dame, Oklahoma State also made a solid run at the CFP. It reached the Big 12 Championship Game with a No. 5 ranking and probably would’ve made the playoffs with a victory. However, the Cowboys lost 21–16 to No. 9 Baylor in the championship.

Oklahoma State comes into this college football bowl game with an 11–2 record and some impressive wins. Head coach Mike Gundy guided the team to victories over Kansas State, Baylor (Oct. 2), Texas, and Oklahoma.

The Cowboys rely on a stingy defense that gives up just 16.8 points (6th nationally) per game. It also holds opponents to 88.2 rushing yards (5th) and 180.3 passing yards (6th). DE Collin Oliver leads the defense with 11.5 sacks on the year.

Moving to offense, running back Jaylen Warren has had a good season with 1,134 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. QB Spencer Sanders heads the passing game with 2,468 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He’s also added 543 rushing yards and six ground TD’s. Sanders must limit his mistakes, though, if Oklahoma State is to win this one.

Fiesta Bowl Betting Tips

If you’re interested in wagering on the 2022 Fiesta Bowl, then you might want a few tips. Below, you can see some of our favourite bets going into this game.

Over 45.5

Defense is the story going into this college football bowl game. Notre Dame and Oklahoma State collectively hold opponents to just 35.1 points per game. However, you also have to consider that these schools average 65.9 points—20.4 more than the totals line. For good measure, seven out of Notre Dame’s last 10 games have gone over.

Notre Dame -2

If you like Notre Dame to score 17 points or more, then you should consider their spread. The Fighting Irish are 7–2 ATS when scoring at least 17. OK State has a strong defense, but we still like the Notre Dame odds on the spread.

Avoid Both Teams to Score +20

Oftentimes, wagering on both schools to score 20 points or more is a successful bet. However, no guarantees exist with these two schools. While we like over 45.5, we’re not fully sold that both teams will score 20.

Oklahoma State +110

You should consider Oklahoma State’s +110 moneyline. Neither team is a lock to win this game, especially with Brian Kelly leaving Notre Dame. The Cowboys could be offering thin value at +115 in what looks like such an even contest.
