888sport is one of the big daddies in global online sports betting and has been around since 2008. Thanks to their excellent sports data and promotional offerings, they have won several awards over the years to cement their reputation as one of the best betting sites.
But what’s it like from a Kiwi perspective? Read on as we take a deep dive into 888sport, and figure out if it is worthy of all of those big awards.
These days a sports betting site isn’t going to catch your eye unless they have a pretty sweet welcome bonus. Being the heavy hitter that they are, 888sport haven’t mucked around with their welcome offer — in fact, it’s one of the best welcome bonuses on the market.
When you deposit US$10, 888sport will give you US$30 in free bets back. Pretty good right? It’s simple, to the point, and there are no varying deposit or bonus mixes like on some of the other sports betting sites.
The only downside is that this is all based on United States Dollars, so US$10 is about NZ$14, and US$30 is more like NZ$42. Keep that in mind when depositing, and also betting.
As relatively simple as the welcome bonus at 888sport is, there is still a bit of fine print to take into account. Never fear though, we went through all of it for you and translated it to plain English.
● To get your US$30 in free bets, you must enter the bonus code 30FB when making your qualifying deposit.
● You’ll only get your US$30 in free bets once you’ve placed a qualifying bet of at least US$10.
● The odds for this qualifying bet must be $1.50 or more.
● To receive your US$30 in free bets, you must make your qualifying bet within 30 days of registration.
● If you are depositing with Neteller or Skrill, you will not be eligible for this promotion.
● The welcome bonus is limited to one person/household/IP address, etc.
As a nice touch, if you forget to enter the bonus code, 888sport will flick you an SMS or an email reminding you to claim the betting offer.
A quick note on making a deposit — when you go to make a deposit, they have six boxes with different deposit amounts, with the smallest amount being US$20. They’re being cheeky here, you only need to deposit US$10 to qualify for the welcome bonus, so click Other, and just enter $10.
Finally, be aware you’ll only get this particular deal if you click our BET NOW link at the top of this screen.
888sport has a massive number of promos running at any one time — so it’s probably best just to dive in and tell you what’s happening.
A free-to-play weekly predictor game that gives you the chance to win up to US$8,000 in cash – just pick the win-draw-win result in eight selected matches from Europe’s top football leagues.
Earn a Free Bet on every Champions League night. Win with your Free Bet, and 888sport will give you another free bet until your streak runs out. To qualify, place a bet or bets of US 2.00 or higher on Champions League matches using the Bet Builder feature.
Get a US 5.00 or more. This is available once per day on all sports.
This one is always running and has a list of all of the games/matches that 888sport has boosted the odds for.
The Match Combos promo allows you to set up match multiples, with plenty of match doubles and trebles on offer.
If you see an orange arrow next to a selection, that means that 888sport has enhanced its price.
If you reckon you’re a bit of an NBA mastermind, Star of the night is like 888sport’s NBA fantasy league. 888sport will award points to NBA players based on their performance — if you get the most points, you’ll be the leader of the market.
Star of the Week is 888sport’s Premier Football Fantasy League. Each Premier League game week, 888sport will score the performance of Premier League Players — if your player selection gets the most points, you lead the table.
Need a bonus? Find all 888 Promo Codes right here on Gambling.com.
888sport has a really good selection of sports and markets available to bet on — some are exactly what you’d expect to see, and some are well, pretty interesting to say the least. Let’s have a look at the sports that are popular for Kiwis to bet on:
● American Football
● Australian Rules
● Baseball
● Basketball
● Boxing
● Cricket
● Football
● Golf
● Greyhound Racing
● Horse Racing
● MMA
● Motor Racing
● Rugby League
● Rugby Union
● Snooker
● Tennis
And if you’re looking for a betting market that’s just a little bit different to what you might find at the TAB, check out these slightly oddball offerings from 888sport:
Badminton, eSports, GAA Football and Hurling, Novelty Betting (e.g. Eurovision) and Politics are all categories featured here.
Suffice to say, you will not get bored of looking for sports to bet on with 888sport!
888sport’s sports data is powered by Sportsradar, who have exclusive data partnerships with the likes of the NBA, International Tennis Federation, MLB, NHL, and more. As you might expect with that impressive resume, the features on offer at 888sport are pretty amazing.
We jumped into a CONCACAF Champions League football match between Club America and the Portland Timbers and found an absolute sports smorgasbord of betting options. Up the top was a live graphical representation of the pitch, with ball movement and possession. To the right of that graphic, you could view the team lineups, live stats (e.g. yellow cards, etc), as well as live written updates of the action. Below that were 18 different types of bets (we counted), with everything from picking the first half score to Asian Handicap offerings, where one team gets a virtual head start.
Moving on to the horse racing, we dived into a race at Penn National in Pennsylvania, where on top of the usual betting options, there was actual live streaming of the race! This is a rarity for sports betting sites and so it’s great to see it being available at 888sport. While they didn’t offer New Zealand-based races, they did have a decent selection of Australian races, but not all of the tracks.
The betslip is always on the right-hand side of your screen — you can’t minimise it to make it disappear, but we kind of like that — that way it doesn’t accidentally go AWOL like on some other sports betting sites. The betslip will also let you know if the bets you have made have a cash out option available.
As we covered in the section above, 888sport has a brilliant live betting section, and the data they provide sports bettors with is right up there with the best. As with all sports betting sites, some of the smaller games or leagues won’t have that same massive amount of detail, but for the big games, 888sport is an incredible live betting companion.
Yes! 888sport has live streaming! While we could only see it on offer for horse racing, this is still a big deal. Having a live video of a horse race is pretty rare on sports betting sites, so 888sport is a terrific option for fans of the track.
888sport’s Bet Builder allows sports bettors to combine markets in the same game to build better odds according to your individual online betting needs. You can use the Bet Builder pre-match or live within the same game.
With 888sport’s BetFeed feature, you can see all of the bets that are trending in real-time so that you can keep track of the betting market as it happens. You can find the BetFeed feature in the left-hand menu of the main screen.

Joining a sports betting website that isn't the TAB might be a little unusual for most Kiwis, so we understand if you have some reservations. But don't worry, everything is legit and legal — and to prove it, we went through the registration process for you to show you it's all good. This is what it looked like when we signed up for 888sport:
Just be aware that when you go to withdraw your winnings, you will be required to provide some photo ID so that 888sport can verify your identity. If this seems a bit iffy to you, don’t worry, we assure you this is standard industry practice, and we would be worried if they did not check that you are who you say you are — it’s all designed to protect your security, as well as to adhere to the New Zealand gambling laws.
Alright, first thing is first, all of your deposits (and bets) at 888sport will be in United States dollars. At the time of writing, the minimum deposit of US$10 is about NZ$14, so keep that in mind for your deposits and your bets.
Also, as we mentioned earlier, when you go to deposit, there are some preset deposit amounts, with the minimum deposit being $20. They are being a tad cheeky here, so just type in $10 if that’s the minimum you want to deposit.
Finally, you will need to provide photo ID when you withdraw your money, both for security and to adhere to New Zealand gambling laws.

There is a lot going on at 888sport, with an absolute ton of sports to bet on, as well as the Online casinos of 888 and dedicated poker area. With that being said, 888sport does a really good job of making it easy to find your way around the site.
At the top of the screen, you can choose from the online gambling nz, poker, or sports betting area. At the top right you can check your settings, change the language, or get some help/support. The top right is also where you will always find the cashier button, which is where you can deposit or cash out.
Down the left-hand side of the screen is a column where all of the action is. Here you’ll find your progress for challenges and your rewards, and below that are the main promos and the sports on offer.
The only downside to the design would be the colours — there is a lot of grey text against a black background that some people might find hard to read.
Overall the desktop experience takes no time at all to figure out, which is more than we can say for some other sports betting sites.
The mobile website is pretty good too — it’s well optimised and easy to make your way around. To the left-hand side of the screen is a pop-out menu that shows you all of the same things that you would see on the left-hand side of the desktop site. In fact, it could be said that the mobile site is even easier to use than the desktop site, as it isn’t quite as busy as it is on a normal computer.
There are apps available for iOS and Android, however, we weren’t able to download them to any of our devices. Your miles might vary here, but at the end of the day, you won’t be missing out on much if you don’t get the 888sport app. The normal mobile website is so good that we don’t really think it makes much difference whether you’re using the betting app or their mobile website.

Another big advantage of online betting with 888sport is their price structure. We measured them with most mainstream sports (football, horse racing, rugby, etc.), and in some of the speciality sports, and we found 888sport’s odds to be on par with all of the other top sports betting sites.
If you want to change the odds format, you can choose from decimal, fractional, or American styles.
Okay, even the most amazing sports betting sites do have chinks in their armour. It’s not that the customer support at 888sport is bad, it’s just not instant like with most other top-tier sports betting sites. Most of the competition will have 24/7 live chat support, which is super necessary for us in New Zealand given that we are on the other side of the world from their European operations.
While 888sport has a large and helpful FAQ section, if you want to talk to a real person, you have to send them a message from within the website, and they will get back to you. We found that they got back to us within 24 hours at the absolute most, and they were very helpful.
And look, if you’re not in a rush, this probably isn’t even a big deal, given that they will give you the help that you need.
888sport doesn’t really advertise their VIP programme on their website, but a quick Google led us to its offerings.
Basically, the more you bet, the more cash rewards 888sport will give you. It ranges from betting US$250 a week to receive US$25 in cash rewards, to betting US$50,000 a week to receive US$1,000 in cash rewards.
It’s nothing too fancy, and it doesn’t seem to offer things like personal account managers or exclusive offers. If you’re a high-roller though, you probably won’t say no to some free cash coming your way!
If the big bets required to qualify for the VIP programme are out of your league, we don’t think it’s too big of a loss — there are so many other promos and incentives on offer that you’ll have a ton of fun regardless.
Having a punt on the game is all about having a bit of fun and adding some spice to the viewing experience. If your betting habits are getting out of hand though, it’s good to know that 888sport has some good tools on hand to help you out.
888sport has a full section for responsible gambling, where you can take stock of your gambling habits, and decide whether you need some help or not. There are also tools that can help like deposit limits, account restrictions, and self-exclusion.
888sport is licensed with the Malta Gaming Authority, the Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association, and follows New Zealand Gambling Commission guidelines.
If you think you might be having some problems with your punting, we absolutely recommend you check out the tools 888sport provides, or reach out for some help.

Oh, and that welcome bonus is also one of the best in the biz.
