Advantages of Online Roulette

Although roulette is one of the world's oldest casino games, it is still a top choice among many players globally. This widespread popularity has extended to the best online casinos as well. The game initially appears complex. However, it is engaging and straightforward. There's a high possibility of landing huge wins when playing roulette, mainly if your bets are on single numbers.

The accessibility of roulette has also contributed to its popularity. It can be played by all categories of players, regardless of their level of skill. It doesn't matter if you have mastered a particular strategy or if you have a preferred number. Roulette is one game that offers premium entertainment.

Several roulette variations are popular amongst casino players around the world. The most popular ones include the famous European and American variants. So you are sure to find a roulette game to suit your playing style.

Play Anywhere at Any Time

Playing roulette online eliminates the need to travel to a land-based casino. You can instead access top roulette casinos within seconds from mobile and desktop devices. Top online casinos also offer mobile apps that are compatible with Android and iOS devices. All you need is a stable internet connection, and you can play anywhere at any time.

Enjoy More Roulette Variations

As land-based casinos are often limited in space, you can only play a handful of roulette games on the gambling floor. However, there are no space limitations with online casinos, and there are thousands of games to choose from, including many roulette variants. You can try live dealer roulette, American or European roulette and many other variants of the game, all available at your fingertips.

Play Without Distractions

It might be difficult for a new player to understand and play a new game at in-person casinos. There are several categories of roulette players at land-based casinos. If you find yourself at a busy table amidst skilled players, it is harder to concentrate due to the pressure and noisy surroundings. Playing roulette online provides you with the quiet and comfortable settings you need, making it easier to learn and enjoy the game at your own pace.

Practice Roulette for Free

Many online casinos offer free casino games that players can enjoy without wagering real money. While this is profitable for the casino as it attracts new players to the site, it is also beneficial to the players because it presents an opportunity to familiarise yourself with roulette rules and build your roulette strategy without worrying about losing money. It is almost impossible to find free casino games at brick-and-mortar casinos.

Claim Rewards, Bonuses, and Other Promotional Offers

Most online casinos offer attractive promotions to attract new players and keep their existing audience coming back. As soon as you register at some online casinos, you will be awarded bonuses. Making a deposit qualifies you for even more bonuses. The more games you play, the higher your comp points, and this will result in more rewards and an increase in your bankroll. Playing at land-based casinos might not afford you this luxury. However, it is always important to read the casino's terms and conditions to understand wagering requirements and other bonus restrictions.

Online Roulette Features and Variations

There are two main types of roulette, European (single zero) and American (double zero). The European roulette table has a spinning wheel divided in 37 pokies. The pokies are numbered from 0 to 36. Each number on the wheel can be either red or black, except for the number zero that is green.

The American roulette spinning wheel instead is divided in 38 pokies, with the addition of the “00” which also comes in green. In order to win at this game players have to predict which number of the wheel the ball will land on. The combination of bets is numerous but for convenience is divided as: inside bets and outside bets.

The most simple bets such as red or black offer even money (1:1 payouts), while higher odds are paid for column or row bets. Most online casinos will offer a number of additional betting options that allow players to bet on specific combinations with a variety of odds. It’s definitely worth checking out the special bets available. Frequently these will pop out from a link within the game.

Roulette Variations

Over the years, different variants of this household name have sprung up. Generally, most players will encounter four popular roulette variants at the best live roulette sites, while some online casinos expand to more. The following roulette variants are by far the most popular in the world:

  • European Roulette
  • American Roulette
  • French Roulette
  • Bonus Roulette

European Roulette is the original version of the game and is the most common form of roulette out there. Players have the opportunity to place a bet on any number from 1-36, red or black and odd or even. There is also a green zero on the wheel, commonly referred to as the house number.

As its name suggests, the house number belongs to the dealer and gives the house a 2.70% chance of taking everything on the table should the ball end up on the green zero. This is no-frills roulette and the most straightforward and purest form of the game.

American Roulette

American Roulette is derived from the European version but was changed slightly to benefit the house. This was done by adding a double-zero pocket to the wheel, almost doubling the house edge to 5% and putting gamblers at a disadvantage.

American roulette is played mainly in the States, and many famous casinos in places such as Las Vegas will stick with the European incarnation, with punters often put off by a wheel weighted towards the house. With this in mind, make sure to check if the table is operating by the European or American rules before you play. In some casinos, there may also be a third type of roulette.

French Roulette

French roulette is often the term given to European roulette; however, there is a slight twist. The rules are essentially the same, but if the ball lands on the house number, the player can take back half their stake or leave it on the table for the next bet. In the online version of this game, the stake is usually refunded automatically.

Bonus Roulette

Bonus roulette takes the basic rules of American roulette but applies them to an online version of the game that allows the player to attain bonuses throughout. These bonuses are earned for different outcomes. For example, if five reds are spun in a row, the player receives a bonus equivalent to the smallest stake on the table over the five spins mentioned above.

Betting Limits

Another important factor is the stakes that players are allowed to bet. Look for a table that suits your payroll, ensuring the minimum doesn't force you into betting sums you can't afford and that the maximum doesn't hinder your strategy and risk decisions.

Gameplay Options

It can pay to find out which casinos offer the functions that fit your strategy. For example, bet365 Casino offers Marvel Roulette, which has an additional progressive jackpot to be won.

Roxy Palace Casino offers Multi-Wheel roulette, which means every bet placed goes on eight different wheels – great for eliminating bad streaks. Mini roulette, available at Betfair Casino, is played on a wheel that only has numbers zero to 12. There are plenty more twists on the classic game, so it's worth exploring to find ones that suit.

More Casino Games

Finally, check what other games are available in your online casino. There's always a fun addition to your gaming repertoire available, from online pokies to classic card games.

Inside Bets

There are numerous different types of inside bets that players can stake:

  • Straight Up - A bet on a single number. The payoff is 35/1.
  • Split - Player places a bet on two neighbouring squares. The payoff is 17/1.
  • Street - Player places a bet on three neighbouring numbers. The chip must be placed on the outer edge of the row. The payoff is 11/1.
  • Six Line - Allows Player to make two street bets (six neighbouring numbers). The payoff is 5/1.
  • Corner - Player places a bet on four neighbouring squares. The payoff is 8/1.

Outside Bets

There are also an array of outside bets that players can stake:

  • Dozens - Identifiable on the left-hand side of the betting table. These are three squares representing the outcomes from 1 to 12, 13 to 24 and 25 to 36. The payoff is 2/1. It is also called a double bet.
  • Colours - The betting on red or black takes place on the left-hand side of the table. Just look out for the two coloured squares. The payoff is 1/1, and it is an even bet.
  • Odd and Even - This bet is also found on the left-hand side of the table. Players can place a bet on one of the two squares - odd or even. The payoff is 1/1, and it is an even bet.
  • High and Low - Players place a bet on the two squares indicating either 1 to 18 or 19 to 36 and effectively bet on a large group of numbers. The payoff is 1 to 1. It is an even bet.
  • Columns - Players placing a bet on the three squares at the bottom of the betting table are playing 12 numbers at a time. Columns usually have "2:1" written inside the square. When placing this bet the entire column of numbers above is played. The payoff is, you guessed it, 2/1.

Placing Your Bets

The most common roulette bet is the straight-up, where chips are placed on a specific number. A split bet is on two numbers and is made by placing a chip on the line between them. Similarly, to make a street or trio bet, the player puts their chips on the line at the end of a row of three numbers.

To make a corner bet on four numbers, chips must be placed on the cross where they meet. Then there's the basket bet, where a player selects five numbers by placing chips where either the 0 and 1 or 00 and 3 intersect. You can also bet on six numbers at a time with a double street bet, where the chips sit at the end of the rows and across the horizontal line between the rows.

Players can bet on groups of 12 numbers in one of two ways. The first, a dozens bet, involves placing chips at the side of the board where the numbers are divided into three lots of 12, known as the first 12, second 12 and third 12. The second is a column bet, which is made by placing chips at the bottom of a column.

Knowing How to Use Your Chips

Once you've grasped the technicalities of different bets, you need to know the etiquette around making them. In the standard version of roulette, the dealer will give players a moment between spins to place their bets. Then, each player is given different coloured chips to identify which bet is theirs, so you cannot mix your chips with anyone else's.

If you're playing in a live casino, you also shouldn't throw your chips onto the table, as this could displace those belonging to other players. Once the dealer has announced that no more bets will be taken, the bet is fixed, and you should not try to move your chips.

Being a Gracious Winner

Once online betting is closed, the dealer will then spin the wheel and drop the white ball. When the ball comes to a stop in a specific slot, the dealer will mark the winning number or colour to pay out to any winners.

You mustn't touch your chips before the payout, as you could be accused of cheating and asked to leave the game. You should also be considerate of others if you have won, as over-enthusiasm is considered poor form.

Tipping the Dealer

It is often a good idea to tip the dealer, especially if it is your first time playing and they have explained the rules for your benefit. In some circles, tipping is expected of big winners. You can do this either by passing them a chip or by placing a bet for them.

Roulette Bonuses

Bonuses play a significant role in the online casino world. When you visit one of our recommended online roulette casino sites, you will find a selection of top promotions. Online casinos use bonuses to entice new customers and to keep current players happy. Bonuses come in all shapes and sizes, and there is often something for everyone.

Most casino bonuses come with a wagering requirement, which is the number of times you must wager a bonus before claiming it. For example, the following are typical bonuses offered for roulette casinos:

  • Welcome Bonus – Also known as a sign-up bonus, a welcome package is a casino's way to attract new customers. The most common type of Welcome Bonus is a deposit match, where the roulette casino gives a percentage of your first deposit as a bonus.
  • Payment Method Deal – Sometimes, an online casino will offer special rewards if you use a specific payment method to deposit money. It is also worth noting that some online roulette bonuses do not allow you to use specific payment platforms, such as e-wallets.
  • Cashback Bonus – One of the best promotions when playing roulette online is a cashback bonus, but you need to be a loyal member of roulette sites to get this reward. For players who spend time and money on a casino, there is sometimes a small cashback reward available without a wagering requirement.
  • Bonus Spins – Many roulette players also love to play online pokies from time to time. One of the most popular online casino bonuses has traditionally been the free spins promo. As the name suggests, this bonus gives you free spins on a specific pokie game on a casino site.
  • No Deposit Bonus – Most gamblers love a no deposit bonus because it does exactly what it says on the tin. You can get bonus cash to play roulette online or other casino games without needing to make a deposit.
  • Deposit Match – A deposit match bonus is usually a part of a welcome package, while online casinos also run similar promos for existing players. It is a percentage match of a deposit you make. For example, if you deposit £20 and the deposit match is 50%, you will get an additional £10 in bonus credits.
