Which Female Olympian Might Take Part In Strictly Come Dancing 2024?

Strictly Come Dancing's return is just weeks away, and the BBC have begun confirming some of this year's celebrity participants.

JLS star JB Gill, singer Wynne Evans and comedian Chris McCausland are among those officially confirmed as taking part in the Latin and ballroom series, and one star appears to have broken show protocol and accidentally let slip he is part of the line-up.

Olympic swimmer Tom Dean, who was one of the Men's 4x200m freestyle relay team to win gold at Paris 2024, said of the show: "Naturally you want to take a break after you've had a full Olympic cycle and the opportunity arose.

"I thought it would be really exciting to try something a bit different."

With a male Olympian seemingly confirmed for this year's Strictly series, talk on UK betting sites has turned to which female Olympian might take part.

Strictly Hopeful Hodgkinson

Keely Hodgkinson was tipped to be Team GB's golden girl in this year's Olympic Games, and she duly obliged by storming to victory in the Women's 800m

Hodgkinson is now the Evens favourite on Strictly Come Dancing betting sites to be the latest female Olympian to appear on the show - following in the footsteps of Denise Lewis, Victoria Pendleton and Nicola Adams - as the programme gears up for its 22nd series next month.

Fellow track star Dina Asher-Smith had an agonising experience in the Women's 200m final, when she missed out on a bronze medal by just 0.02 seconds, after failing to qualify for the 100m final just days earlier.

Asher-Smith is a 6/4 shot to take her mind off the result by signing up for Strictly.

Team GB sprinter Daryll Neita was also denied a podium finish by the smallest of margins.

After finishing fourth in the 100m final, Neita finished fifth in the 200m final, just 0.03 seconds off a bronze.

Neita is 9/2 for a Strictly spot, while Katarina Johnson-Thompson is 3/1. Golfer Charley Hull is 2/1 to swap her golf swing for a Salsa.

Ahead of this year's Games, Molly Caudery was just 15/8 to leap to pole vault victory for Team GB, but she provided one of the shocks of Paris 2024 by failing to qualify for the final.

However, the star, who set a British record in June, is 4/1 to bounce back and compete for the Glitterball Trophy this year.

Fred's Daughter To Dive Into Strictly?

Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix, daughter of First Dates maitre d' and former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! star Fred Sirieix, won bronze in the Women's 10m synchronised platform diving alongside partner Lois Toulson, and the pair are now in the conversation for this year's Strictly.

Spendolini-Sirieix is a 5/2 chance on specials betting sites to follow up her Paris podium finish with a spin around the Strictly ballroom, but three golden girls could also be in contention.

Bryony Page, who won Team GB gold in the women's trampoline, is 4/1 to leap onto the dancefloor later this year, while women's quadruple sculls Olympic champions Hannah Scott and Lauren Henry, are 11/2 shots to challenge for the sparkly Glitterball.

Amber Rutter very nearly won gold in the women's skeet shooting, but she had to settle for a silver medal following a controversial moment.

Rutter - who missed Tokyo 2020 due to a positive coronavirus test, and gave birth just three months before Paris 2024 - lost out to Chile's Francisca Crovetto after her sixth extra shot was judged to have missed, despite replays appearing to show it clipping the target.

Finucane's Strictly Sprint

Emma Finucane won gold in the women's team sprint cycling, and, at the time of writing, she still has a chance to achieve Olympic history by securing a hat-trick of gold medals.

If she cycles to victory in the keirin and individual sprint events, Finucane will become the first-ever British athlete to win three golds in a single Olympics.

She told BBC Sport Wales: "It's a big confidence boost. It's a big week for me and this gold has given me a lot of confidence. I want to go into it and enjoy it and see what I can do."

Her words aren't too dissimilar from what many a celebrity has said ahead of competing in Strictly.

Finucane is 7/2 on betting apps to follow up her potentially record-breaking Olympics with a Strictly stint, while Women's 3m synchronised springboard diving bronze medalists Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen are 6/1 chances.

Uneven bars gymnast Becky Downie sadly fell during her routine at the Games, and if she took part in Strictly she would be hoping to avoid a dancefloor repeat of the unfortunate moment.

Downie is 7/1 to be a Strictly 2024 star, while another Becky, women's double sculls rowing bronze medallist Becky Wilde, could also be part of this year's line-up.

Wilde and her fellow bronze medal-winning women's double sculls rowing team-mate Mathilda Hodgkins-Byrne are both 15/2 for a ballroom bid.

Tennis stars Heather Watson (10/1) and Katie Boulter (16/1) were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 women's doubles tennis tournament, but both could be in with a shout of Strictly glory this year.

Others who could get the nod include Helen Glover (9/1), who won a silver medal in the Women's four rowing, and equestrian star Laura Collett (14/1).
