Lawrence Shankland Next Club Odds: Rangers Move Could Be On The Cards
Lawrence Shankland is the latest player linked with a move in the mid-season window and UK betting sites have opened up a market on where the Scottish international may sign before the deadline.
Currently topping the Scottish Premiership goalscoring charts, it is no wonder a whole host of clubs are linked with the 28-year-old.
The Hearts captain has been in fine form this season and has netted 18 goals in all competitions for his side.
As a result of his excellent form, Scotland boss Steve Clarke recalled Shankland to the national team and he managed to get on the scoresheet against Georgia back in November.
The Jam Tarts striker has bagged in all of his last six league games, which could contribute to him earning a move this month. So, let's check out the latest odds on where he might play next.
Rangers Odds-On To Sign Hearts’ Main Man
When Shankland failed to make the short journey from Tynecastle to Ainslie Park for a Scottish Cup tie against Spartans recently, suspicion rose about his future with the Edinburgh club.
As such, Rangers are now 1/3 favourites with football betting sites to take Shankland off the hands of Hearts before the window slams shut.
Cyriel Dessers has led the line of the Gers for the majority of the season, but his six goals in 17 appearances leaves a lot to be desired for a side chasing the Scottish Premiership title.
Shankland has 13 goals in the league and would take up a sizeable chunk of Phillipe Clement’s transfer budget, but the Scot does guarantee goals in the top flight.
Former Rangers striker Steven Naismith is currently in charge of Hearts and he could play a facilitating role in the move of their prized asset in the next week or so.
Celtic A More Than Plausible Option
Celtic have already added German forward Nicolas Kuhn to their ranks this month, but have not ruled out making a second addition to their frontline.
New betting sites have the Bhoys at Evens to secure the services of Hearts' number nine and he would bolster the Glaswegian’s attacking options considerably.
Kyogo Furuhashi is the main man for Celtic at present, but even he could be displaced if the most prolific striker in Scotland signs for Brendan Rodgers.
With both sides of Glasgow in the running for the frontman, the fact Celtic are eight points ahead of their arch-rivals Rangers, could be a deciding factor in the eyes of Shankland.
Hearts Stay Not Out The Question
Despite interest from both Glasgow sides, Shankland could well remain in Edinburgh for the rest of the season.
His contract expires in 2025, and the Hearts hierarchy are rumoured to be offering the Scot a bumper deal to stay at Tynecastle for the foreseeable future.
With Hearts on course to finish third in the league, European qualification for next season looks a strong possibility, which could prove pivotal in their efforts of holding onto their star player.
Hearts midfielder Andy Halliday (who is on loan at Motherwell) recently disclosed that he is “90% confident” that his teammate will remain a Jam Tarts player heading into February and bookmakers are offering odds of 5/2 on this being the case.
West Brom And Sunderland Provide Championship Chance
Shankland has played the vast majority of his career in Scotland, but a number of teams could provide a route into the English Football League.
West Bromwich Albion are 4/1 to pounce on the forward, who would provide healthy competition for Brandon Thomas-Asante and Josh Maja.
The 28-year-old could be what is needed to secure a play-off place come the end of the season.
Narrowly behind the Baggies are Sunderland at 5/1 with betting apps.
It’s been a slow start under new manager Michael Beale for the Black Cats and Shankland could provide the cutting edge needed if they, too, want to finish in the play-off places.
Beale should know all about Shankland's qualities from his time as Rangers boss, and he could be the driving force behind formulating a move for the 28-year-old in the coming days.
Coventry And Luton In With An Outside Shout
Coventry are having another fantastic season under Mark Robins, and are 8/1 to be the Shankland's next employers.
The Sky Blues spent a hefty sum on Ellis Simms in the summer, so another big money signing may prove a step too far in this window.
Luton are the only side who could offer the Scot a chance to play in the Premier League - for the remainder of this season at least.
The Hatters are in a dogfight to survive in England’s top flight and odds of 12/1 suggest Shankland will not be heading to Kenilworth Road this window.
