Erling Haaland has emerged as the odds-on favourite to be crowned PFA Player of the Year after blazing a trail of destruction across the Premier League.

Betting sites make Martin Odegaard the third favourite, so we could eventually see a two-horse race develop between those prodigiously talented Norwegians.

However, English youngsters Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka are in fine form, while you can never write off two-time winner Kevin De Bruyne.

There are lots of interesting long shots too, including Harry Kane and Casemiro, so this looks like an intriguing market.

With that in mind, we have rounded up the leading contenders for this season’s PFA Player of the Year award and discussed their chances of success.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is as short as 2/5 to be named PFA Player of the Year after firing in a remarkable goals tally this season.

However, you can find a market leading 8/13 on offer at Bet365, which could tempt some punters after watching Haaland’s exploits in front of goal.

He is well clear of Kane in the race for the Golden Boot, and he boasts a better goal conversion rate than any of his contemporaries.

Haaland is undoubtedly a world-class striker who has displayed an uncanny knack of finding space in the box and ruthless finishing ability since he signed for Man City last summer.

However, whether his all-round play is enough to merit the PFA award is another matter entirely.

In the past eight years, Mohamed Salah is the only Golden Boot winner to also clinch the PFA Player of the Year honour, and he generally has far more touches per game than Haaland.

The Man City striker deserves his status as the favourite in this market, but he is no longer scoring hat-tricks for fun, and him winning this award is certainly not a slam-dunk.

Marcus Rashford

Some football betting sites have slashed the odds on Rashford to just 4/1 in this market after he delivered a string of super performances for in-form Man Utd.

He has scored almost a goal per game in all competitions since the club season resumed following the winter World Cup.

He has outscored Haaland since the restart in December, and his position on the left flank also allows him to get more involved in games than the Norwegian striker.

Right now, Rashford is enjoying the sort of form that propelled Salah to two PFA Player of the Year awards, and if he keeps it up, he should be the leading contender for individual glory this season.

Martin Odegaard

The Arsenal captain has drawn comparisons to De Bruyne this season after leading the Gunners to the top of the table.

He has shown outstanding poise in possession, while he has also chipped in with an impressive haul of goals and assists.

Odegaard has regularly been the standout player for the league leaders, which has made him a major contender for this award.

He is undoubtedly a graceful player and he has been in sparkling form for much of the season, but you could make a compelling case for teammate Saka taking the award ahead of him.

Yet Odegaard is the clear second favourite right now, priced at 5/1 with BetVictor, and he could usurp his compatriot if he steers the Gunners towards the title.

Bukayo Saka

Saka has cemented his status as one of the world’s best wingers by producing consistent brilliance for club and country this season.

He is currently one of just two Premier League players in Transfermarkt’s Most Valuable World XI, which reflects his sparkling form.

While Odegaard dictates the pace of Arsenal’s play, Saka is their talisman and the Gunners generally turn to him when they need inspiration.

He has provided more assists than any other player in the Premier League apart from De Bruyne this season, and only six players have scored more than him.

Saka has been marked out of a couple of games recently – notably the 1-0 defeat to Everton – but he should absolutely be in the conversation for PFA Player of the Year, and odds of 12/1 look enticing.

Kevin De Bruyne

The Belgian playmaker has drifted out to 20/1 with 10Bet, but he remains the star of the show for the Premier League champions.

De Bruyne regularly outshines Haaland, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish et all with his virtuoso performances.

He is comfortably ahead of Saka as the leading provider of assists in the division, and Haaland’s numbers would be a lot less impressive were it not for his creativity.

De Bruyne has already won this award twice, and he is still operating at the peak of his powers in the Man City midfield.

He may just make an interesting long shot if you think Man City will overhaul Arsenal in the title race.

The Rest

Casemiro is a very interesting outsider at 33/1 with betting apps after transforming Man Utd’s fortunes following his summer transfer from Real Madrid.

He has been rock solid in the United midfield, and they regularly struggle when he is missing, underscoring the case for him winning the award.

Harry Kane is priced at 50/1, despite enjoying one of his most productive seasons in front of goal.

He would normally be a leading contender for the Golden Boot with that sort of hit rate, but Haaland has gone berserk this season.

Kane may offer more than Haaland in terms of his build-up play, but Spurs are well off the pace in the title race, and that may count against him.

Longer shots include Riyad Mahrez (100/1), Gabriel Martinelli (100/1), Thomas Partey (150/1), Miguel Almiron (150/1) and Mo Salah (150/1).
