Bills vs Chiefs Preview

This is a big weekend for Canadian sports betting fans, with the NFL’s divisional round games set for tomorrow and Sunday. Tomorrow, the Baltimore Ravens host the upstart Houston Texans (4:30 p.m., ABC), followed by the Green Bay Packers heading to San Francisco to take on the 49ers (FOX). BetMGM this morning has the Moneyline Texans 4.50, Ravens 1.22, the Packers 4.50 and the 49ers 1.22 (current Spread Texans +9.5, Ravens -9.5; Packers +9.5, 49ers -9.5; O/U 43.5).

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers travel to Detroit to take on the Lions Sunday at 3 p.m. (NBC), with the Lions ML favourites at 1.36 and the Bucs 3.20. The spread is Bucs +6.5 and the Lions -6.5, and the O/U 48.5.

Then there’s the Buffalo Bills versus the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday night – a rematch of two marquee quarterbacks, the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and the Bills’ Josh Allen, with Mahomes holding a 2-0 playoff edge over Allen. But this time, unlike in the past, Mahomes is playing on the road.

Bills Insights

As anyone who has been watching them since a Week 12 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Eagles can attest, a loss that pushed them out of the playoff discussion for a lot of people, the Bills have been in playoff mode ever since then, rhyming off six straight wins. The last one was the wild card win 31-17 over the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday night after an epic snowstorm in Buffalo last weekend postponed the game.

Sunday’s weather forecast for Buffalo is not as cold as it’s been, -4 degrees, feeling like -9, with cloudiness. They’re an 88 per cent chance of snow Saturday but that goes down to 2 per cent on Sunday. That’s why the organization has made another call out to snow shovelers to clear off the stadium seats.

WR Gabe Davis (knee), S Taylor Rapp (calf), CB Christian Benford (knee) and LB Baylon Spector (back) are out of the lineup with injuries and won’t play.

Under offensive coordinator Joe Brady, the Bills have been spreading the ball around more, beyond WR Stefon Diggs. TE Dalton Kincaid, WR Khalil Shakir and RB James Cook have all had a larger presence in the offence since Week 12. The defensive front, led by Ed Oliver, an emerging superstar, can fast take over this game in those cold conditions.

Chiefs Insights

Will Taylor Swift make the trek to the snowy north for the big game? That’s going to be interesting – her relationship with Chiefs TE Travis Kelce generating as much ink as the play of the football team itself. The Chiefs have a great rushing attack led by Isiah Pacheco – who rushed for 935 yards, seven TDs and a 4.6-yard average on the season. And Mahomes is Mahomes – 4,183 yards passing this season (sixth in the league), 27 TDs (eighth) with a QBR of 63.0 (eighth).

On the injury front, according to ESPN, WR Kadarius Toney is questionable with a hip/ankle issue and was limited in practice yesterday. DT Derrick Nnadi (elbow) and WR Justyn Ross (hamstring) are also listed as questionable, as is CB L’Jarius Sneed. LB Cam Jones (chest) and WR Skyy Moore (knee) are out, both on injured reserve.

Player Props

According to FanDuel, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Anytime TD (+7.00), Chiefs’ RB Isiah Pacheco Anytime TD (2.20) and the Over Mahomes Rushing Yards (O 26.5, 1.88) are the most bet player props.

Pacheco to Score Anytime TD (2.00), Pacheco Over 14.5 Rushing Attempts (1.78) and Mahomes Over 4.5 Rushing Attempts (1.85) are all seeing the most player prop betting action at BetMGM.

And at DraftKings, Pacheco Anytime TD Scorer (2.15), Allen Anytime TD Scorer (1.87), Allen Scorer 2 or More TDs (6.00), and Allen Passing TDs Overt 1.5 (2.10) are among the most bet player props.

  • Moneyline 1.67 (Bills), 2.25 (Chiefs)
  • Spread -2 1.85 (Bills), +2 2.00 (Chiefs)

When looking at the NFL betting odds, with those weather conditions, take the Over on the 46. BetMGM has the O/U at 45.5 this morning, with 58% of bets and 63% of handle on the Over. That makes sense, with those two marquee quarterbacks going head-to-head again, the latest chapter in what’s become a storied competition.
