Cheltenham Day 4 Tips: David Mullins' Horses To Follow

It was a great day at Cheltenham on Thursday, that definitely went the way of the UK. It’s been an incredible turn around this year after Ireland’s utter domination last year!

Day Four is another cracker to sign off the festival, so hopefully we can get the better of the best betting sites and find a few winners.

Vauban - 1:30 Triumph Hurdle

The change to the ground is a concern for Vauban, but I do believe he is the best horse in the race and might just get away with it if it keeps drying out.

Gordon Elliott's pair probably get a bit closer to him with the weather, but Vauban was really impressive at Leopardstown and beat his rivals very easily that day.

If the ground can dry out a bit more I'd be even more confident with how he quickens, but if he handles it they have it all to do to stop him.

State Man - 2:10 County Hurdle

This is one of the most competitive handicaps at the Cheltenham Festival, but State Man might just be a class apart to these and horse racing betting sites seem to agree with that statement.

He just looks to be very well handicapped really on the promise he has shown so far. He was very good last time, and at Christmas he was going very well before he came down.

While I'd have a few doubts about how much he'll love the hill, he might be so well in (like Saint Roi in 2020) that it just might not matter.

Shantreusse - 2:50 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle

I'd say connections of Shantreusse were one of the few people at Cheltenham who were delighted to see the rain come. I think this race will really suit him.

I love his profile for this, and he impressed me last time winning a tough three mile hurdle at Clonmel, which takes doing. This is always a war of attrition and that is exactly what he wants!

A Plus Tard - 3:30 Cheltenham Gold Cup

The Gold Cup is always one of the best spectacles of the year, and Henry De Bromhead's A Plus Tard might just have too much for them.

Minella Indo, Al Boum Photo and Galvin are all horses who travel behind the bridle and with the lack of pace on here, A Plus Tard probably will have too many gears for them.

Protektorat will travel into this well, but he's not proven and A Plus Tard can go one better than he did last year.

Winged Leader - 4:10 St. James's Place Festival Challenge Cup

Billaway is a horse who probably deserves to win a Foxhunters after how close he has gone in the past, but he has probably had enough goes at it and I'm happy to take him on with Winged Leader.

This isn't a race I'd be getting too heavily involved in, but Winged Leader appears to be a horse going the right way, and he was impressive when beating Billaway last time at Thurles. He can take this for David Christie and Barry O'Neill.

Mount Ida - 4:50 Mares' Chase

I'm very keen on Mount Ida, as I have been for quite a while, but the rain is only making me feel even more confident.

The ground will be riding dead and tacky, which will slow everything down. This will only suit Mount Ida who stays further and she could be very hard to beat.

She was excellent at the Cheltenham festival last season and she's the one to beat in this contest.

Adamantly Chosen - 5:30 Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle

Adamantly Chosen fits this race perfectly and is a nice price to take for this race on new betting sites.

He got beaten on his first few runs, but in truth he didn't do a whole lot wrong. He needed the first run, his last run at Cork was a bit of a freakish race and he was giving plenty of weight away.

He was very good on his last run which should leave him bang on for this. He's just perfect for the race as he's an easy ride and travels behind the bridle like Sir De Champs and Don Poli did when they both won this race.
