It’s the most wonderful time of year if you are a rugby fan from the northern hemisphere as the Six Nations is almost upon us again.

The best rugby betting sites have been working overtime calculating the odds, while all six bosses of each participating nation have been sweating over their respective squad selections.

Wales come into the tournament as defending champions, after being agonisingly pipped by France in their final game last season which stopped them from claiming the 13th Grand Slam in the nation’s history.

Ireland arrive for their first game of the competition on the back of a hugely positive November Series, but question marks remain on if they can land just their 15th outright win of the Six Nations tournament or even grab just their fourth ever Grand Slam.

What are Ireland’s Six Nations Odds?

The odds on the Six Nations 2022 have Ireland as third favourites at a tasty price of 7/2 with BetVictor.

The best betting sites prices are especially interesting as Ireland have massive momentum behind them after comprehensively beating Japan and Argentina in November, and they also bettered New Zealand by nine points in a game they utterly dominated between those fixtures.

Ireland opened their 2021 Six Nations campaign with disappointing losses to Wales and France, but turned things around to score three wins on the spin over Italy, Scotland and England to end their tournament on a high.

One suspects such a poor start to the campaign this time around will not be tolerated for Andy Farrell’s men, especially with such a wave of expectation behind them given the successes in November.

The new flowing, offloading style that Farrell has finally managed to implement has captured the hearts and minds of the Irish public too, so you’d have to feel that their current price on with bookmakers will not last long.

Is A Six Nations Grand Slam Possible For Ireland?

After struggling for 61 years up until 2009 to win a second Grand Slam, Ireland grabbed a third one within just nine years in 2018 under the stewardship of Joe Schmidt. Ireland also won two other Six Nations crowns during Schmidt’s time in charge, but this is very much Farrell’s show now.

Gone is the risk averse style of rugby witnessed in the Schmidt regime, and Ireland now seem capable of throwing the pill around the field as well as any of the top sides in the world – you only have to watch back the recent victory over the All Blacks for evidence of that.

Ireland also find themselves in third spot at 13/2 on the Paddy Power rugby betting list to land the Grand Slam for a fourth time this season. France and England are ahead of Ireland in the market, but you can find slightly better odds on Ireland to win every game in the tournament on other betting sites.

Jonathan Sexton and Co also have the so-called ‘easier route’ to sealing the Grand Slam this season, as they only have to play France (February 12) and England (March 12) away from home. Meanwhile, they will welcome Wales (February 5), Italy (February 27) and Scotland (March 19) to the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Ireland won two of their three Grand Slams by following this route, while the 2009 victory was secured by going the consensus harder way with visits to Cardiff, Edinburgh and Rome that year.

When Is The England V Ireland Rugby Game?

responsible

As mentioned above, Ireland head to Twickenham to take on England on Saturday March 12 and the kick-off time is set for 4.45pm.

It’s fair to say that the home of English rugby hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Irish recently, as England have won seven of the last eight games these rivals have contested there.

The last time Ireland won at Twickenham was in 2018 and that 28-15 victory was made even sweeter as it confirmed Grand Slam and Triple Crown successes for the visitors.

However, given the way handicap betting in rugby can be, you’d expect England to be heavily favoured when the markets become available for this upcoming contest.

What Are The Odds For The Six Nations?

When it comes to picking a winner for the 2022 Six Nations betting, rugby betting markets are always a good place to check to see where the money is going.

France are the current favourites to win the crown, as they can be found at 13/8 with BetVictor to end a 12-year drought in this competition. The French appear to be back to their brilliant best under head coach Fabien Galthié and ended their November internationals by battering a New Zealand side softened up by Ireland the week before.

Next on the hitlist are England at 5/2 in the Paddy Power rugby betting odds and Eddie Jones’ outfit have won three of the last six titles available to them. The English face an anxious wait on the extent of captain Owen Farrell’s ankle injury, but they still have an impressive pool of talent to pick from.

Elsewhere, last year’s surprise victors Wales can be nabbed at 8/1 as their rebuild from the Warren Gatland-era continues under Wayne Pivac. Meanwhile, fans of a real outside punt can get Scotland at 12/1 and Italy at wild odds of 1000/1.

Andrew Conway Is Ireland’s Best Bet To Be The Six Nations Top Tryscorer

When it comes to winning the top try-getter gong at the tournament, Munster’s Andrew Conway appears to be Ireland’s best hope and can be backed at 16/1 with Betfair to have the most tries in the competition.

Other Irish hopefuls include Keith Earls and Ronan Kelleher (both 20/1), while Robert Baloucoune and Garry Ringrose follow in the market at 33/1.

They all trail the favourite, England’s Jonny May, by quite a bit though. He is available at 9/2 as the winger looks to add significantly to the 14 Six Nations tries he already has in his career.

Last year’s award winner was Duhan van der Merwe of Scotland and he can be found at odds of 13/2 to repeat that trick.
