Next Bond Girl Odds: Kaya Scodelario And Sydney Sweeney In Contention
Netflix action-comedy The Gentlemen is one of the streaming giant's latest big talking points, but could one of its stars rock up in the next James Bond movie?
Latest speculation on betting sites suggests former Skins actress Kaya Scodelario - who plays Susie Glass in Guy Ritchie's series - could soon be rubbing shoulders with the suave spy.
Eva Green, Gemma Arterton, Halle Berry, Britt Ekland, and Ursula Andress have all previously played "Bond Girls" in previous movies, and while the term has been met with criticism in recent years, the wording doesn't look likely to stick around in films to come.
But there will no doubt be a female lead in the next Bond movie.
Bookmakers have recently suspended betting on Kick-Ass actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson being the next 007 - replacing Daniel Craig in the coveted role - but which actress might line up alongside him?
Kaya Makes A Move
Killing Eve actress Jodie Comer remains the 6/4 favourite on specials betting sites to be the next female lead in a Bond movie, but she faces increased competition from Michelle Keegan.
The former Coronation Street actress, who recently starred in Netflix hit Fool Me Once, has seen her odds cut from 5/2 third favourite to 7/4 second favourite in a matter of weeks.
Like Michelle, 5/2 chance Kaya is also being much talked-about off the back of her impressive performance in a Netflix show, after appearing alongside the likes of Ray Winstone and Theo James in The Gentlemen.
After cutting her teeth in teen drama Skins back in the Noughties, Kaya has risen up the entertainment ranks, swapping the small screen for the big screen, and appearing in the likes of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and all three The Maze Runner movies.
Bond certainly seems as though it could be a suitable next destination for the star, who could be the perfect casting as a complex character who could more than hold her own against 007.
From Marvel To MI6?
However, Kaya faces stiff competition from 3/1 fourth favourite Sydney Sweeney.
Best known for starring in the likes of HBO drama series Euphoria and The White Lotus, as well as The Handmaid's Tale, the actress is now a wanted woman in Hollywood.
Already this year, Sydney has appeared in Marvel movie Madame Web, off the back of starring in romantic-comedy Anyone but You, and crime thriller Americana in 2023.
Sydney's stock appears to be rising by the day, and appearing in a Bond movie could boost her profile further.
Other stars whose careers have been swelled thanks to Netflix shows include Phoebe Dynevor, Meg Bellamy, and Emma Mackey.
Bridgerton star Phoebe is the 4/1 fifth favourite on betting apps to be the next female lead in a Bond movie after her starring turn as Daphne Bridgerton in the series.
What's more, Meg (5/1) and Emma (7/1) attracted plenty of praise for playing Kate Middleton in The Crown and Sex Education's Maeve Wiley, respectively.
But will they soon be swapping Netflix for MI6?
Dua's Price Drop
Like Michelle, Dua Lipa's price has also been clipped in on new betting sites in recent months.
The singer-songwriter is best known for her pop tunes, but she can also turn her hand to acting, after appearing alongside Mackey in the Barbie movie last year.
She is now into 8/1, from 14/1, to be the next female lead in a 007 movie, and Bond bosses might even get a two-for-one deal if they recruit her - because she could also perform the theme tune.
Other stars who are in contention for the part include Oppenheimer actress Florence Pugh (9/1), and Wednesday star Jenna Ortega (10/1), while The Queen's Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy is a 14/1 outsider.
