NFL Thanksgiving Day Predictions:

5.30pm Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers

The high-flying Detroit Lions (8-2) host a struggling Green Bay Packers (4-6) in the first of three NFL match-ups live on Sky Sports on Thanksgiving Day.

Unsurprisingly, the Lions are the hot favourites with betting sites to extend their winning streak to four and take a vice-like grip in the NFC North.

After an excellent second half of the season in 2022, the Lions got off to a flying start when beating Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, on the opening day of the 2023 season.

They slipped up in their next game when defeated by the Seattle Seahawks but have won seven from eight games since.

Quarterback Jared Goff has continued where he left off last season, has passed 16 touchdowns so far this term, and has run in for a couple of scores.

He can again lead the Lions to a win, but bookmakers have set the bar high on the spread, with most firms giving the Packers a 7.5-point start, which could take some breaching.

A case can certainly be made for Green Bay with that kind of a start, but it looks too close a call and from a betting point of view, a more attractive proposition can be found in the touchdown market.

Rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs has made a real impact in recent weeks, scoring five touchdowns in his last four appearances. He will be a crucial target man whenever the Lions are in range of the end zone.

He is a reasonably attractive 6/1 to be the first touchdown scorer, but a safer option is to take Evens on offer with BetVictor for an anytime touchdown.

He is as short as 4/6 on other bookmakers and will almost certainly be given ample opportunities to get his name on the scoreboard again.

Tip: Jahmyr Gibbs Anytime Touchdown Scorer - Evens BetVictor

9.30pm Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Commanders

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has been on a different level in his last five games, throwing for over 1,500 yards and 14 touchdowns.

In that period, the Cowboys lost just one game against the season’s winning most team, the Philadelphia Eagles (9-1).

The Cowboys are 7-3 on the season and their opponents, the Washington Commanders, will be hard-pressed to improve on their 4-7 record.

Anything but a clear-cut win for the Cowboys will be a surprise. Most NFL betting sites make them double-digit favourites; they may well cover the spread in their current form.

The Commanders were well below their best when suffering a shock defeat against the New York Giants at the weekend. Going on that form, they will need a huge bounce back if they will seriously trouble the home team.

With wide receiver CeeDee Lamb expected to make the team after an ankle injury scare at the weekend and Prescott in such devastating form, a wide-margin win should be well within their grasp.

The Cowboys have only failed to cover the spread on one occasion when favourites, and they are expected to continue the trend with another comfortable win.

Tip: Dallas Cowboys -11.5 points - 20/21 BoyleSports

1.20am Seattle Seahawks vs San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers (7-3) were unstoppable when they easily won their opening five games at the start of the season.

After that excellent start, they lost their way for some inexplicit reason and suffered three surprise defeats on the trot.

They have since gone someway to redeeming themselves with comfortable victories over Jacksonville and Tampa Bay, and a win against NFC West title challengers the Seattle Seahawks (6-4) will see them comfortably in command in the division.

Quarterback Brock Purdy has found his top game again and has thrown three touchdown passes in each of the 49ers' last two games.

For whatever reason, he is still underrated by the American media, who still do not rate him as a top-class QB.

His latest stats suggest they are wide of the mark and he is expected to deliver another top-drawer performance.

The Seattle Seahawks, who have struggled to find their best form in recent weeks, also have plenty of injury worries going into this game. They would likely struggle against a performing 49ers outfit even at full strength.

Everything points towards success for the 49ers, who look good to cover the spread on betting apps, giving the Seahawks a 6.5-point start.

Tip: San Francisco 49ers -6.5 points - 20/29 with Bet365

* A treble on these three tips comes in at approximately 13/2.
