14:10 Beverley – High Security – 1pt @ 5/1

High Security is yet to properly hit the line in any of his races this season but two of those runs were on the All-Weather and the other two came on slightly slower turf. The ground has been fast for all three of his career wins so today’s conditions could kick him up a level by default – assuming they haven’t overwatered – and I think we should see what he’s truly capable of this time around.

He ran well over C&D most recently, not beaten far by a subsequent winner in Majeski Man, and the way he moved through that race was definitely encouraging. The finishing effort wasn’t as hot but the gallop wasn’t strong for a 5f sprint and this may pan out better. This is a drop into a 0-60 also (from a 0-75), which will be a big help, and he’ll have a class edge over the majority if things go to plan.

15:10 Beverley – Cliffcake – 1pt @ 20/1

Cliffcake could be worth taking a chance on. He still looked to be lacking race-fitness when running over a mile at Thirsk last time, threatening to work his way into contention following a wide trip but then weakened away from the furlong pole. It wasn’t exactly full of promise and it’s not hard to figure out why he’s a big price, but he’ll be reaching peak fitness now and is capable of better than that.

Dropping in trip to an extended 7f is a help and it’s only three outings since he was sent off as the 9/4 favourite for a good handicap at Southwell off 6lbs higher than his current mark. He’s 3lbs below last June’s win (7f at Thirsk) and the peak figures he has achieved are as good as anything in this field. There’s plenty of hoping and wishing in siding with him, but it’s worth a go at the current prices.
