Exquisitely may not be the most straight-forward but I’m not convinced she enjoys going around a bend and it’s possible she’ll do better at Southwell for the first time. She’s definitely in the right hands to be winning races and went close to doing so at Newcastle in October, only caught right on the post having shown loads of speed (traded 1.01). The winner hasn’t run since but does look quite talented.

Both of her following outings have been at Wolverhampton. She ran well first time on her handicap debut, finishing a close third, but broke awkwardly and carried her head high in the straight. It wasn’t as pronounced when returning from four months off in a maiden last time but she did miss the break there and got quite lit up, which may explain why she wasn’t able to show her true level of form.

She might strip fitter for it and the handicapper has eased her mark to 68, 3lbs lower than her other handicap run. That looks workable, especially if she takes to Southwell as well as I’m hoping! It’s a C&D that favours the speedsters and she certainly has lots of toe. A lot will depend on her break from the gates and if it’s quick enough to sit up near the front, she’ll be in there pitching late on.

17:00 Southwell – Claim The Stars – 1pt @ 20/1

Claim The Stars is a maiden after sixteen attempts but looked to be finding his level when switched over to the All-Weather in November. He put in three good performances in a row, finishing third at Wolverhampton, fifth at Newcastle and then third again over C&D. That was a particularly solid run considering those racing prominently dominated and the front two won handicaps again since.

He was easily beaten last time out but has an excuse there having been reported to be lame afterwards. That could explain the subsequent 102-day break and obviously adds to the risk, as we don’t know where his fitness is at or how much work they’ve got into him at home. On the other hand, he’s 3lbs below his C&D third and he’s available at 20/1! That is too big regardless of any risk attached.
