14:20 Down Royal - Envoi Allen @ 6/1

Due to Down Royal racecourse being waterlogged last weekend, the Ladbrokes Champion Chase card has been rescheduled to this Saturday and a small but select field of four go to post for the feature event.

Last year's star novice Gerri Colombe heads the market at 5/6 and it's easy to see why.

He suffered the first defeat of his career in the Brown Advisory at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival where he was just touched off by the Real Whacker but he bounced back in style at Aintree to win the Mildmay Novices' Chase in impressive fashion.

All roads lead to the Cheltenham Gold Cup for Gerri next March and you'd have to question whether he will be fully wound up for Saturday's assignment this early in the season. So at a shade of odds-on, he looks worth opposing.

The one I will be taking him on with is last year's winner Envoi Allen, who is priced at a very generous 6/1 with betting sites

The nine-year-old has raced at Down Royal's winter festival on four occasions and won every time so I reckon it's fair to say he is a course specialist.

Last year's Ryanair Chase winner was given the ideal prep run at Gowran Park in September and Gentlemangame has since come out and boosted the form in the Charlie Hall, so Envoi Allen looks like a cracking bet to make it consecutive Champion Chase wins.

Tip: 14:20 Down Royal - Envoi Allen to win @ 6/1 with Ladbrokes

14:45 Aintree - Half Shot (Each-Way) @ 8/1

The Grand Sefton Handicap Chase at Aintree over the Grand National fences is always a sight to behold and this year's renewal looks set to be a belter.

A total of 11 runners go to post and there are 18 fences to be jumped, with the going currently being described as heavy it will be the ultimate test for these staying chasers.

Last time-out winner Gesskille heads the market and he is followed by the Nicky Henderson-trained Fantastic Lady but I am selecting one at bigger odds here and my pick is Half Shot at 8/1

Iain Jardine is enjoying some hot stable form at present with four winners in the past week which includes a 66/1 winner and he is sure to have Half Shot ready to rock for Saturday's assignment.

The Yeats gelding has finished inside the top three in all of his previous eight runs bar one and he arrives at Aintree with the perfect prep run where he was just beaten a head at Kelso.

Ridden more prominently last time out, he should be up with the pace again and I expect another bold showing.

Betting apps have odds of 8/1 available and they are also paying four each-way places on the race so it's worth getting involved on Half Shot to give connections a big race win.

Tip: 14:45 Aintree - Half Shot each-way @ 8/1 with bet365

15:00 Wincanton - Rubaud @ 5/6

Paul Nicholls has won the Elite Hurdle at Wincanton on nine occasions and I fully expect his exciting gelding Rubaud to make it a 10th victory in the race for the champion trainer on Saturday.

Rubaud started off racing in France before changing hands to Nicholls where he won two novices hurdles last season with the minimal of fuss.

He was then upped in class for the Grade 2 Dovecote Novices Hurdle where he didn't disappoint when winning by just over a length, while Hansard who re-opposes Saturday was a well beaten fifth.

The five-year-old rounded off last season with a brilliant victory in the Scottish Champion Hurdle and he arrives at Wincanton on the back of another tidy win in a listed race at Kempton.

I fully expect Harry Cobden to bounce out and make all on Rubaud and it will take a good horse to reel him in, so at odds of 5/6 he makes plenty of appeal as he looks like on of the bankers of the weekend.

Tip: 15:00 Wincanton - Rubaud to win @ 5/6 with BetVictor
