The Open Betting Tips 2024: Four Each-Way Picks From The Panel At Royal Troon

The wait is almost over for the final major of the year as The Panel look at the best betting sites to pick out a few outsiders for the Open Championship at Royal Troon.

We have already selected three players from the top of the market to lift the Claret Jug, but the purpose of this preview is to find some each-way value further down the field.

Defending champion Brian Harman already fits that category as an 80/1 shot with BetVictor to produce back-to-back victories just as Tiger Woods and Padraig Harrington did in 2006 and 2008 respectively.

Robert MacIntyre gave The Panel a 45/1 winner with a birdie at the last to land the prestigious Scottish Open at the weekend and hopefully we'll have more success with our four Open Championship betting tips, three of which played at the Renaissance Club.

Open Championship Each-Way Betting Tips:

Hatton Can Land Maiden Major

Tyrrell Hatton just about scrapes in as an outsider at 22/1 with golf betting sites and warmed up for the trip to Scotland by finishing third at the LIV Golf Andalucia tournament over the weekend, a shot behind Anirban Lahiri and play-off winner Sergio Garcia.

Hatton had also bounced back from his US Open disappointment by shooting a final-round 65 to win his first LIV Golf tournament last month.

A closing 77 at Pinehurst scuppered his hopes of winning a first major title, but he should have a spring in his step after winning by six shots in Nashville.

Hatton’s first four Open Championship appearances all resulted in missed cuts, but he broke the mould at Troon in 2016 when he finished a distant fifth to Henrik Stenson in an unforgettable duel with Phil Mickelson.

Since then, Hatton has finished sixth at Royal Portrush in 2019, 11th at St Andrews three years later and posted another top 20 at Hoylake 12 months ago.

Hatton has six top 10s in majors over the last nine years, including ninth at this year’s US Masters and although four rounds at the Renaissance Club would have done him the world of good, he looked relaxed at Wimbledon last Tuesday ahead of his trip to southern Spain.

A bold bid looks on the cards and if you have some free bets to use at your disposal, getting on board with Hatton could pay dividends.

Major Winner Clark Can Tame Troon

The Panel’s Open Championship betting preview was written before Wyndham Clark started his first round at the Scottish Open, but we were glad to be on the American after a closing 62 ensured a top-10 finish.

Clark had been out of sorts since finishing third at The Heritage almost three months ago, but the work he has put into his game finally seems to be paying off following a decent showing at the Travelers Championship on the PGA Tour.

The 2023 US Open champion birdied the last four holes for a closing 63 to slip into the top 10 at the Renaissance Club, a reward for all the effort he had put in over the last couple of months during which he has worked on “every part” of his game.

Aside from his triumph at the Los Angeles Country Club a year ago, Clark’s major record is mediocre, but he finished just outside the top 30 at Hoylake and with a good week behind him in North Berwick, he could be an Open contender.

Clark’s last victory came at Pebble Beach at the start of the year, so he certainly has nothing to fear from playing on the coast, and with Americans winning five of the last 10 Opens, Clark catches the eye at 60/1 with Bet365, who are offering eight places.

Conners To Challenge At Troon

We advised Corey Conners at 100/1 during the opening round of the Scottish Open and his odds have been shortened to 66/1 with betting apps thanks to a top-10 finish on the east coast of Scotland.

This incredibly consistent Canadian has not missed a cut since the 2023 US Open and we have no reason to suspect that run will be broken this week.

His major record this year has improved with each appearance having finished T38 at the US Masters, T26 at Valhalla and T9 at Pinehurst, so could he take another step towards the biggest win of his career?

Both of Conners’ two PGA Tour victories have come at the Texas Open where wind is usually a factor and which he may have to handle at Troon.

Although he ended up outside the top 50 at Royal Liverpool, Conners has made the cut in each of his last three Open Championship appearances, finishing T15 and T26 in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

He was inside the top 20 at the Renaissance Club in 2023 and also posted a top 10 at the same course last week.

Conners seems to have upped his game in the last few weeks having also finished sixth in his native Canadian Open and he looks an interesting prospect at what was last week a triple-figure price.

Stick With Straka For Major Bid

The last of our Open Championship predictions is Sepp Straka, who sat alongside Jon Rahm, Tom Kim and Jason Day as runners-up to Harman in 2023, the same year he also finished seventh at the USPGA Championship.

The Austrian has gone off the boil in the last few weeks, but he is an excellent ball-striker and it should not be forgotten that he followed a T16 at the US Masters with four top 10s in five appearances.

It can only be a matter of time before Straka gets back on track and his odds remain at 100/1 with Bet365 despite a missed cut at the Scottish Open.
