Betting Trends So Far This Season: Premier League Comeback Kings

The Premier League enjoyed one of its most dramatic afternoons last Saturday, with four teams coming from behind to win.

It's the most on any given day in the history of the league and took the total of comeback wins in this season's English top flight to 17.

Football betting sites have been put on notice and will adjust their odds for this weekend's games accordingly.

At Gambling.com, we decided to analyse the top five European leagues to see how this and other betting trends compare.

Premier League The Comeback Kings

Leicester staged one of the most dramatic fightbacks in the Premier League this season, when they beat Southampton 3-2 at St Mary's last time out.

Saints looked set to secure their first win of the campaign, when they led 2-0 with 26 minutes to play.

However, Facundo Buonanotte started the comeback for the Foxes, which was completed by Jordan Ayew's 98th-minute winner.

Tottenham started the ball rolling earlier in the day, when Ange Postecoglou's side came from a goal down to beat West Ham 4-1 in the lunchtime kick-off.

In between those two thrillers, Aston Villa recovered from conceding the opening goal to win 3-1 at Fulham, while Manchester United beat Brentford 2-1 at Old Trafford, after the Bees opened the scoring for the seventh time this season.

Manchester City lead the way in the Premier League with four comeback wins this term and they will hope they don't have to produce another when they host Southampton on Saturday.

Guardiola's side are 15/2 on betting apps to win at Southampton from a losing position.

Villa's turnaround at Fulham was their third in the league this season and they host Bournemouth this weekend. Of the 80 fixtures played in the Premier League, 21.3% of them have been won from losing positions.

Only 10 of the 80 games played in Serie A (12.5%) have produced wins from losing positions, which is the fewest of the five major leagues in Europe.

Ligue 1 has seen 11 of 72 games (15.3%) won from losing positions, while La Liga has seen 15 of its 100 games played produce comeback wins.

Nine of the 63 games played so far in the German Bundesliga (14.3%) have seen teams come from behind to win.

La Liga's Late Drama

While the Premier League has the most comeback wins, La Liga leads the way with late goals. Last weekend, seven of the 10 fixtures saw a goal scored in the final 15 minutes.

Of the 35 goals scored in Spain's top flight, 12 came in the 76th minute or later, taking the total for the season to 68. That represents more than a quarter (26.3%) of all the goals scored in that league this campaign.

Matches involving Valladolid have seen 11 goals scored in the final 15 minutes, which also includes time added on by referees.

Only two of those goals have been scored by Valladolid, with nine coming against them. This weekend Valladolid host Villarreal, who have scored five and conceded three in the same period of time.

Of all the goals scored in Serie A, 23.9% have come between the 76th minute and full-time, while 20.8% of the goals scored in Ligue 1 have been late goals and 17.8% of the 230 goals scored in the Premier League have also come in the final 15 minutes.

Only 17.6% of the goals scored in the Bundesliga have come in the same period of time.

Bundesliga Boosts Best Goal Average

If you are a fan of an over 2.5 goals acca, then you really should be paying close attention to the Bundesliga.

Of the 63 fixtures played in the German top flights so far this season, 43 (68.2%) have produced three or more total goals.

If you are looking at building an acca for this weekend's action across Europe, then Augsburg's home game with Borussia Dortmund is one to consider.

Over 2.5 total goals has been a winning bet in every game Jess Thorup's side has played this season and includes a 4-1 win at FC Viktoria in the German Cup.

It has also paid out in the last eight league and cup games Dortmund have played, including their 5-2 loss at Real Madrid in the Champions League, when they led 2-0 with half an hour to play.

The Bundesliga averages 3.51 goals per game, almost a goal more than La Liga matches, which averages 2.59 goals.

Spain's top flight has seen 56% of its games produce three or more total goals scored, while the Premier League (55%) and Serie A (57%) have a bit of catching up to do on Germany's top division.

Only half of the 72 matches in France's Ligue 1 have seen three or more goals scored.

Bologna And Serie A The Draw Specialists

Bologna may have lost to Aston Villa in the Champions League this week, but the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara side go into this weekend's round of Serie A games as the draw specialists.

None of the 96 teams in Europe's top five divisions have featured in more league draws than Bologna.

Leading 2-0 at Genoa with 17 minutes to play, Bologna failed to close the game out and had to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw.

It was their sixth in eight league contests and they host Milan this weekend. The last time the two sides met, the game finished 2-2 at the San Siro in January.

Almost a third of all Serie A games (32.5%) this season have ended in stalemates. La Liga is second on the list with 28%, while Ligue 1 is third with 27.8%. Of the 63 games played in the Bundesliga, only 12 (19.0%) have ended all square.

Only three of those 12 draws have been goalless, which is the fewest in any of the five leagues.

Leganes' 0-0 draw at home to Valencia at the start of October was the tenth (10%) in Spain's top flight. Serie A has seen nine 0-0 draws (11%), Ligue 1 has had four (6%) while the Premier League has only had four games (5%) finish without a goal being scored.

Premier League And Bundesliga Top For BTTS

Both teams to score remains one of the most popular accumulators placed every weekend.

Our research shows that the Premier League and Bundesliga are the best places to look for teams that should be considered.

BTTS, as it is commonly known, has been a winning bet in 62% of the games played in these two leagues.

Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim are two teams to keep a close eye on. BTTS has landed in every league game they have played so far this season.

This weekend after European ties, Leverkusen travel to Werder Bremen while Hoffenheim go to Heidenheim.

In the Premier League, 'both teams to score' has happened in seven of the eight league games played by Brentford, Leicester, Manchester City and Wolves.

For the purposes of a BTTS acca, maybe avoid Nottingham Forest as they have only featured in one game where the popular wager has paid out.
