Next Shrewsbury Manager Odds: Who Are The Candidates To Replace Paul Hurst?
Shrewsbury Town are on the lookout for a new manager and the best betting sites have opened a market on who will replace him.
Paul Hurst was given his marching orders on Monday after a defeat by Salford City in the FA Cup, before which a three-game losing streak had bumped Shrewsbury down to second-bottom of the League One standings.
Hurst was handed the reins in January and he fulfilled his remit of keeping the club in the third tier, but the Shrews have not been able to kick on at the start of the current campaign.
The next man through the door will be tasked with pulling the team away from the relegation zone in the weeks and months ahead.
Hurst’s assistant Paul Doig has also departed, but the club does not appear to have appointed an interim manager yet. That has fuelled speculation that Shrewsbury might have someone lined up for the permanent role already.
Who could that be? We have taken a look at the leading contenders for the role with help from betting apps.

Maamria In Pole Position
Dino Maamria is the favourite for the Shrewsbury managerial role, with odds of Evens available with the football betting sites.
The Tunisian has plenty of experience in the EFL, having previously led Stevenage, Oldham Athletic and Burton Albion.
Maamria kept the Brewers in League One in his last job, although Shrewsbury may face competition for his signature.
Reports in recent days suggest Tunisian champions Esperance Sportive De Tunis are in talks with Maamria over a potential role at the club.

Kennedy Seen As Leading Candidate
Mark Kennedy at 7/1 is the second-favourite to succeed Hurst at The Crowd Meadow. The former midfielder has been out of work for a few weeks after being dismissed by Swindon Town following a five-month stint in their dugout.
Kennedy has not lasted long in any of his three jobs to date, although he chose to resign as Macclesfield Town boss amid their financial issues.
The Irishman is one of the names in the frame for the position at Shrewsbury.
Barry-Murphy Waiting For Opportunity
Brian Barry-Murphy is still waiting for a chance to manage an EFL club. The Irishman is highly regarded within coaching circles, having spent three years in charge of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad.
Barry-Murphy is listed at 8/1 to be the next Shrewsbury manager following Hurst’s exit.
“I’d had approaches over the time I was there and I never explored them in any way as I was committed to City,” he told the Irish Independent on Monday.
“The reason I left was to now explore them, so it’s not bravery. Yes, there is uncertainty over where I go next and I have nothing lined up, but I will now see what’s available to me out there.”
Harrison Contender For Shrews Role
Craig Harrison has spent the majority of his managerial career in Wales and is currently at the helm of The New Saints, with whom he has won eight league titles across two spells.
TNS are currently taking part in the Europa Conference League, so Harrison would no doubt be reluctant to leave midway through the league phase of that continental competition.
Even so, Harrison is priced at 12/1 to be next through the door at Shrewsbury.
Richardson Also In The Frame
Leam Richardson is available at 12/1 to take charge of Shrewsbury as their next permanent manager.
He did not do particularly well in his last stint at Rotherham United, winning only two of his 24 matches at the helm, but that was a difficult job for anyone.
Richardson is no doubt keen to get back into management soon, and he could be one of the names on Shrewsbury’s shortlist.

Wild Could Emerge As Contender
Pete Wild is another 12/1 option in this betting market. The 40-year-old led Barrow to ninth-and eighth-place finishes in League Two, only to depart the club at the end of last term following a post-season review.
Wild may have done enough to earn a shot at a job at the lower end of League One.
Shrewsbury will no doubt consider him as they search for a replacement for Hurst.
