Friday's Horse Racing Tips: James Boyle's Best Bets At Goodwood

For today's horse racing tips, our analyst James Boyle looks at the flat racing at Goodwood, with three selections now online.
As always, you’ll find the most up-to-date odds at the best horse racing betting sites, but our tipster’s predictions are researched early in the day and those prices could soon be moved in by the betting public. Odds stated are correct at the time of publishing.
Running P/L for the 2025 Flat Season - 93pts staked, 138.46ts returned; +45.46pts.
14:40 Goodwood – Contacto – 1pt @ 5/1
There should be improvement to come from Contacto as a four-year-old and it may be worth backing him to score first time out. Five runs last season yielded two wins and a good second in a valuable race, although four of those outings came in a six-week window in April and May.
He definitely stepped forward for those experiences when returning in a £100,000 contest at Haydock in September, only finding the progressive Master Builder too strong. The running-on third bolted up next time when stepped up to two-miles and the front four are clearly useful.
Why he didn’t race again in the autumn, I have no idea, but he’s reappearing from what looks to be a workable mark of 86 and now goes up in trip himself. It has the potential to eke out more and if all trends in the right direction for him this term, there’s another win or two in his locker.
15:15 Goodwood – Beset – 1pt @ 10/3
Beset was a rare winner for Henry Candy last season when landing a 1m 4f Wolverhampton handicap in October and was subsequently sold for 25,000gns. It looked like she had scope for longer trips but reappeared for Joseph O’Brien over an extended 1m 2f at Sligo.
The fact that they went a strong gallop definitely helped but she moved through the race better than what could have been anticipated based on her previous showings and ended up scoring comfortably. With a better run through, it would have been even easier.
She simply looks like an improved performer and heading up 6lbs in the handicap won’t be a problem. There are some better horses in opposition this time but she’s getting a longer trip, which will help, and could strip fitter for that run as well. If she takes to the track, she’s a player.
16:25 Goodwood – Great Acclaim – 1pt @ 11/1
Great Acclaim hasn’t got home on either of his starts this season but if he does revive at some point, he’ll be capable of playing a hand in races like this. There’s every chance he hadn’t come to hand and the ground was very fast when he raced at Ascot a few weeks ago.
They’re changing his trip as well, running him over 7f for the first time, and I’m interested to see how that’ll go. It’s hard to be certain but he can move well enough through a race and I get the impression it could suit. It’s worth a go anyway and he shouldn’t mind the track.
Those at the front of the market wouldn’t inspire confidence for a variety of reasons and I want to take them on. Whether Great Acclaim is the right one to do it with remains to be seen but any of the double-figured quotes on offer seem fair. An in-form version of the horse can trouble them all.
