Friday's Horse Racing Tips: James Boyle's Best Bets At Newcastle
For today's horse racing tips, our analyst James Boyle looks at the all-weather racing meeting at Newcastle, with three selections now online.
As always, you’ll find the most up-to-date odds at the best horse racing betting sites, but our tipster’s predictions are researched early in the day and those prices could soon be moved in by the betting public. Odds stated are correct at the time of publishing.
12:25 Newcastle – Feel The Need – 1pt @ 14/1
Feel The Need has had most of his experiences running against lesser horses than what he’s taking on today and it’s hard to know if he has the class to compete. On the plus side, he has no weight on his back and arrives as an in-form horse having posted big efforts at Southwell.
The first of those yielded a win, in which he cruised along before scoring easier than the bare margin suggests, whilst last time he was totally unsuited to the run of the race. They crawled early and sprinted late, and he came up a length short despite doing his best to get involved.
I think they’re likely to get racing earlier this time and it’s possible he’ll prefer the stiffer track as well. I’m certain he’s better than an 80 horse granted the right scenario and he’s not thoroughly exposed on the All-Weather yet, or as a miler in general having only had six goes at the trip.
His style of running always requires luck but he’s in receipt of at least 5lbs from the field, and 23lbs from the top-weight. If there’s a decent speed on to pull those at the back into it, I’d be hopeful that he’ll travel well into contention and have a chance late on. 12/1 or bigger is fair enough.
13:00 Newcastle – Staincliff – 1pt @ 9/1
With Cloud Cover having a triple-figured rating and Moonspirit not certain to appreciate dropping back to 7f, I wonder whether the drifting Staincliff should actually be shortening. She does have questions to answer but I’d excuse her first run at this trip last month.
They went slow that day, she was dropped in from the widest gate and didn’t seem to appreciate being restrained, always wanting to go quicker than she was being let. There was too much for her to do in order to get involved and she’ll be happier racing on a track like this.
Her mark has been eased a couple of pounds to 90, which I reckon is workable, and she won her maiden here last winter. The sole attempt at the track since was in a Listed contest won by Night Raider and it’s safe to say she was biting off more than she could chew at that level.
It’s only her second go in a handicap, it could well be a race her connections earmarked as one to get her right for and now that she has had a run at the trip, they may ride her more aggressively. At around the 9/1 mark, I’m happy to take a punt. She has the talent to go well.
14:10 Newcastle – Malc – 1pt @ 18/1
Malc is another edging into cliff horse territory for me and it’s definitely up for debate as to whether he’s good enough to beat a few of these. However, he has what could be a good draw in stall 12 and I’m sure he’s better than the performance he put in over C&D a couple of weeks ago.
There are no obvious excuses for why he finished behind The Caltonian and We Never Stop, but I just don’t think he fired for some reason. If he was at his best, he’s more than capable of popping up from a mark in the mid-90s and hopefully he’ll be a bit sharper this time around.
I thought there was a lot to like about his previous outing when second to Kylian over 5f here and the minimum is a bit sharp for him, even on this track. If he was back into that sort of form, he’d be a threat to all. Oisin Orr taking over from an apprentice should do no harm either.
