US Open Betting Tips: 2 Picks For The 2022 Golf Major
US Open Betting Tips:
The Country Club at Brookline plays host to the 2022 US Open which takes place in a swirling storm that is the golf world.
The LIV Tour has now been launched and is in competition with the PGA Tour, with players such as Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson being given the chance to participate in this golfing major.
However, the above trio aren’t among the favourites with golf betting sites to win in Massachusetts, with some of the LIV Tour participants likely to get a spiky reception from the patrons, although the same won’t apply to Rory McIlroy who will arrive on cloud nine.
The Northern Irishman produced some sublime golf to win last week’s Canadian Open and that sets him up nicely for this tournament.
Can Rory End Major Drought at Brookline?
If Rory McIlroy decided to retire from professional golf right now, his career would have been regarded as hugely successful.
The 33-year-old has 33 professional wins to his name along with 14 European Tour wins and he has secured four golf majors along the way which is more than the vast majority of players will manage.
However, the plain fact remains that his quartet of successes were all achieved between 2011 – 2014, with his maiden victory actually coming in the US Open.
Therefore, we’re into the eighth year without any major success for McIlroy, although it would be no surprise if the Ryder Cup legend is knocking on the door at Brookline.
Rory came roaring back in the final round of the 2022 Masters to finish second behind Scottie Scheffler, while he was eighth in the PGA Championship and certainly has fire in his belly coming to the 2022 US Open.
If he is mentally strong, then he has to have a huge chance.
Thomas and Scheffler Should Go Well in 2022 US Open
Justin Thomas also played some fantastic golf in the Canadian Open and it’s possible that the American will have a fierce PGA rivalry with McIlroy over the coming months and years.
The 29-year-old was in the winner’s enclosure at Southern Hills when winning a second PGA Championship and the Brookline course should suit someone whose game is in excellent order.
However, prior to that recent major success, Thomas had been without a meaningful tournament victory for some time and that isn’t a comment that can be levelled at Scottie Scheffler.
The latter remains as the world number one and perhaps the American is ready to bounce back after missing the cut in the PGA Championship where he was favourite with betting sites.
Scheffler broke his major duck in the 2022 Masters and he has secured no less than four PGA Tour wins in 2022, with these wins coming thick and fast since the WM Phoenix Open in February.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational saw the “Scheff” win by a single stroke against three other rivals before he overcame Kevin Kisner in the final of the WGC Match Play.
Can Rahm Find Form To Retain US Open Crown?
Jon Rahm is the reigning champion coming to Brookline, with the Spaniard finishing on -6 at Torrey Pines twelve months ago, with the European edging out Louis Oosthuizen by a single shot and there were other fine performances from Harris English, Collin Morikawa and Brooks Koepka.
Rahm hasn’t been too successful in the ensuing twelve months, with the world number two finding some form to recently land the Mexican Open on a course which was receptive to birdies and the winner was able to shoot four rounds under 70 to secure a one-stroke win.
However, will he be able to cope on the tiny greens at Brookline?
Finau and Morikawa Stick Out In US Open Betting Odds
The great thing about betting on golf majors is that you can get extra places galore and US Open free bets with some of the leading golf bookmakers. Therefore, you can secure some big priced golfers and make a tidy return if they finish high up the leaderboard.
Tony Finau seems to fit the right profile when it comes to Brookline and this is an American who is in excellent form right now.
He comes into this major having finished second behind the on-fire McIlroy in the Canadian Open, with the popular player having made the cut in the Masters and the PGA Championship this year.
His major record is littered with top ten finishes and Finau has managed to record fifth and tied-eighth in previous US Opens.
However, he is yet to enter the winners’ enclosure when it comes to major tournaments and the same doesn’t apply to Collin Morikawa who has the ability to claim a big success in Massachusetts.
Morikawa’s form hasn’t exactly been sparkling, although a 2020 PGA Championship win was followed by a 2021 Open Championship victory and perhaps he can win a major for a third consecutive year.
The American was tied fourth in last season’s US Open and he was fifth in this season’s Masters.
