Rory McIlroy Masters Odds: Can any Irish player win at Augusta National?

Rory McIlroy is predictably among the favourites in the US Masters betting, with the Northern Irishman having regularly been knocking on the door to win a Green Jacket throughout his career.

Indeed, a triumph at Augusta National is one of the few things missing from a stellar career for the popular 33-year-old who continues to suffer a major “drought” after a glut of successes that occurred between 2011-2014.

McIlroy won the US Open in 2011 and the PGA Championship in 2012, while he was successful again in the latter in 2014 in addition to winning the Open Championship that year. 

It means that it’s just a Masters title required to complete the career Grand Slam and perhaps 2023 is the year that it happens.

The Holywood golfer produced a spellbinding final round of 64 to finish runner-up to Scottie Scheffler 12 months ago.

McIlroy is always capable of fireworks at Augusta, even if he is prone to throwing in a stinker of a round during this tournament which effectively renders him an unlikely winner.

However, it’s 36 professional wins and counting for a player who won the Canadian Open, Tour Championship and CJ Cup last year, with McIlroy having also played impressively at the end of January when winning the Hero Dubai Desert Classic after edging out Patrick Reed by a single stroke.

The Ryder Cup hero certainly appears to be in good nick coming into Augusta National week after recently reaching the semi-final stage of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Championship, with McIlroy eventually beaten by Cameron Young on a sudden death hole after being two up with three to play.

Aside from missing the Masters cut in 2021, McIlroy has regularly been at the business end of proceedings and there have been a series of top 10 finishes. 

He was tied fifth in 2020, with five consecutive top 10 finishes between 2014-2018 illustrating that the player has the game to finally secure a Green Jacket.

Now armed with a new putter along with a fresh driver shaft, there are reasons to be confident that Rors will put on a show in the 2023 Masters and betting sites have installed him as one of the favourites at 8/1 to win it. 

Lowry Trying to Add Another Major to his Collection

Like McIlroy, Shane Lowry was also high up the leaderboard when it came to the 2022 Masters, with the Irishman finishing tied third a year ago. 

That was his best ever finish at Augusta and a sign that he has started to master the fiendishly difficult course that had previously presented a stern challenge to the major-winning player.

Lowry is a 50/1 shot for the Masters with golf betting sites, which many will view as an attractive price.

He was successful in the 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush and he has made the cut in the past three renewals of the Masters as his performance has gradually improved each time. 

He was tied 25th in 2020 before tying in 21st a year later before finishing five shots behind Scottie Scheffler in 2022.

The Offaly man returned to the winners’ enclosure towards the end of 2022 when obliging in the prestigious BMW PGA Championship.

Lowry finished up on -17 which was a shot better than McIlroy and Jon Rahm, while he was able to more recently find some form in Texas to beat Jordan Spieth in the World Matchplay.

Bookmakers anticipate that Lowry’s first two rounds at Augusta will be enough to see him remain at the tournament for the weekend, although does he have quality recent form to carry a live threat?

Does Seamus have the Power for Augusta?

Seamus Power might be a late bloomer, although the Irishman’s 27th-placed finish in the 2022 Masters could stand him in good stead when he returns to the Georgia course a year later. 

He was also tied ninth in the PGA Championship and tied 12th in the US Open last year, so it’s clear that he has the big tournament mentality, with new betting sites offering 150/1 about him which makes plenty of appeal to each-way punters.
