Rory McIlroy US Open Odds: Northern Irishman Favourite To Win At Brookline
Rory McIlroy is the early favourite with betting sites to win the US Open at Brookline this weekend following his scintillating triumph at the Canadian Open just a few days ago.
McIlroy is seeking his first major victory since 2014 and came second at the Masters last month, his best ever result at Augusta.
The Northern Irishman is perhaps receiving greater support than at any time during his pro golfing career after speaking out against the LIV Golf breakaway franchise in the build-up to this tournament.
With the likes of rebels Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson competing for the Wanamaker Trophy this week, there is an air of discomfort around The Country Club as golf steadily tears itself apart.
McIlroy aimed a dig at LIV Golf mastermind Greg Norman, saying after the Canadian Open win that he was fuelled to better the veteran’s 20 PGA titles. “21st PGA Tour win, one more than someone else - that gave me a little extra incentive today and happy to get it done,” he said.
Plenty of eyes will be on the 33-year-old this week, along with other golfers who chose to remain with the PGA and shun the money on offer from LIV Golf.
And bookmakers reckon the 2022 US Open winner is likely to come from the PGA’s stable.
Rory McIlroy US Open Odds
Indeed, golf betting sites have cut McIlroy’s odds of winning the US Open down to 8/1 ahead of Thursday’s opening round. Those odds were 12/1 before his Canadian Open triumph and reflect a renewed confidence in the four-time major winner that he can secure glory here.
It is also McIlroy’s best price heading into a major this season. He was 14/1 to win the PGA Championship and 12/1 to win the Masters.
The US Open marked McIlroy’s entry onto the major stage when he won the tournament at Congressional in 2011. He blitzed the field that week, finishing eight shots clear of second-place Jason Day on -16.
Fast-forward 11 years and he is yet to lift the Wanamaker Trophy again. The Country Club last played host to the US Open in 1988, when Curtis Strange beat Nick Faldo in a playoff to claim the $180,000 winner’s share.
Who Will Win The US Open?
While golf fans will be rushing to use their US Open free bets on McIlroy this weekend, there is plenty of movement in the market right now.
Indeed, there are some big names who are past winners of the US Open who are seeking to return the Wanamaker Trophy to their personal cabinets.
Here are the names the best bookmakers reckon can challenge McIlroy for the championship…
Justin Thomas
Coming into Brookline as the reigning PGA Championship king naturally gives Justin Thomas an edge over most competitors. The American's season has taken a while to really get going but his results have picked up since the RBC Heritage in April.
Not only has he won the PGA Championship, but Thomas was fifth at the AT&T Byron Nelson and third at last week’s Canadian Open.
We can chalk off him missing the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge because days earlier the 29-year-old had just won his second major. So, Thomas is on form heading into the weekend.
The only issue is he has never really shone in this tournament - and perhaps at 14/1 his odds with William Hill are a little too low for some punters.
Jon Rahm
The Spaniard is back to defend the US Open crown he won last year at Torrey Pines.
Jon Rahm has played just once since a miserable T48 finish at the PGA Championship. His T10 finish in May’s Memorial Tournament at Muirfield was a steady outing for the 27-year-old, but by no means a flash of things to come this weekend.
Rahm delivered an impassioned defence of the PGA Tour in the week, saying he didn’t play golf for the money.
“I could retire right now with what I've made and live a very happy life and not play golf again,” he said.
This will likely adhere him to fans in Massachusetts, and his odds have come in from 16/1 to 14/1 with BetVictor over the past few days.
Scottie Scheffler
The world’s top-ranked golfer is still on a high after winning the Masters by three strokes off McIlroy back in April.
Yet Scottie Scheffler has not won a trophy since, and has finished outside the top 10 in three of his four tournaments this spring. Scheffler was somewhat overlooked at the Masters as everyone turned their focus on Tiger Woods.
The 25-year-old did come second in the Charles Schwab Challenge, but his Canadian Open efforts left a lot to be desired. He finished 12 shots behind champion McIlroy and missed the PGA Championship cut a month ago.
At 16/1 Scheffler will have his backers, however he’ll need to get off to a good start on Thursday and Friday to convince more punters to follow him.

Golf betting can be a tricky art at times and while McIlroy is currently being tipped to win the US Open odds, there are three outsiders who are picking up just as much interest in the 33-year-old.
Xander Schauffele is 22/1 to win at Brookline, but is carrying almost 6% of all wagers on this market.
The 28-year-old has won one tournament all season - the Zurich Classic of New Orleans - and missed the cut at the Masters. However, Schauffele evidently has his followers this weekend.
Shane Lowry at 28/1 with Ladbrokes is another outsider punters are backing with great enthusiasm.
His third-place finish at the RBC Heritage in April is his best result for a while, although T10 in Canada suggests he could be an outsider for a top-10 bet this weekend. Lowry is paired with Phil Mickelson for the opening two rounds of the tournament.
And Korea’s Im Sung-jae is the third player to collect as many bets as McIlroy heading into the tournament. The 24-year-old finished T8 at the Masters after leading day one at Augusta by one shot.
Scheffler streaked ahead by day two, but Im held in there to post a respectable -1 finish and collected $450,000.
Meanwhile, the lowest-priced LIV golfer competing at the US Open is Dustin Johnson, who is marked at 45/1 to win in Brookline.
Johnson could be in for some flack this weekend and it wouldn’t be a surprise if fans turn on the American. Whether that will bother the 2016 US Open champ remains to be seen.
LIV Golf Specials
Plenty of attention will be on the LIV Golf cohort this weekend, and it’s fair to say punters have the opportunity to back spectacular failures from the breakaway rebels over the coming days.
Paddy Power are offering odds of 9/2 on Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed missing the cut. That is a remarkably slim price considering the quality of both these players.
Meanwhile, Johnson is 7/2 to be the top LIV golfer of the weekend, ahead of Talor Gooch (4/1) and Louis Oosthuizen (9/2). Phil Mickelson - one of the biggest supporters of the breakaway tour - is way out at 225/1 with bet365.
Indeed, the bookies are largely backing the PGA players to dominate this weekend. William Hill have a price of 5/1 on McIlroy and Scheffler making the top 10, with Reed is 10/11 to miss the cut and Gooch 6/5.
