Sammie Szmodics Next Club Odds: Fulham And Celtic Battle For Blackburn Ace

Sammie Szmodics is enjoying a wonderful season and the best betting sites have opened a market on where he might end up.

The 28-year-old has never had a season like this, scoring 23 goals in 38 Championship appearances for Blackburn Rovers so far this term, who are involved in the relegation battle at the wrong end of the second-tier table.

The attacking midfielder has found the back of the net six more times in other competitions.

Whether Blackburn stay up or not, the Republic of Ireland international (who made his debut for the country against Belgium recently) will surely be on the move this summer.

Let’s take a closer look at the candidates to sign him.

Fulham And Celtic Lead Market As Things Stand

Fulham are the 6/5 favourites with football betting sites to land Szmodics, who is under contract at Ewood Park until 2026.

According to reports, the Cottagers have sent scouts to watch the attacking midfielder as they consider a summer swoop.

Szmodics usually plays as a No.10 and there would be a role for him in Fulham’s favoured 4-2-3-1 formation, even though Andreas Pereira would not give up his place in the side easily.

Celtic are also sniffing around the Irishman and can be backed at odds of 5/4

There is no doubt that the Hoops are a bigger club than Fulham, but even Celtic and Rangers find it difficult to compete with the Premier League these days.

Brentford And Ipswich Also Thought To Be In Mix

Brentford have been rightly praised for their recruitment over the last few years, so Szmodics should take it as a compliment that the Bees appear to be keen to bring him to the Gtech Community Stadium.

Thomas Frank likes to play with a front two and he could be eyeing Szmodics as someone who could help to replace Ivan Toney. Brentford are priced at 2/1 by betting apps.

Available at the slightly longer odds of 5/2 are Ipswich Town, who are targeting promotion to the Premier League.

Should they succeed in that objective, Kieran McKenna’s side could make a move for Szmodics.

Luton And Everton’s Pursuit Depends On Top-Flight Status

Luton Town have made a great fist of their attempt to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

The Hatters are currently inside the drop zone on goal difference - albeit helped by a points penalty handed to Nottingham Forest - and if they stay up they will need to continue strengthening their squad.

Szmodics could be one player they look at, with the Hatters currently available at a price of 4/1. Relegation would almost certainly make this one impossible, though.

Everton (6/1) would have a better chance of enticing Szmodics if they went down to the Championship.

However, given the ownership and financial issues surrounding the club, it is hard to predict their transfer plans.

Bournemouth And Nottingham Forest Among Dark Horses

Bournemouth have made some excellent signings of late, but their sporting director Richard Hughes is on his way to Liverpool in the summer.

The Cherries have a good structure in place though, and they could be contenders to sign Szmodics.

You can get a price of 8/1 on the Blackburn star ending up at the Vitality Stadium.

Nottingham Forest are listed at 12/1 in this market. Their scattergun approach to recruitment has landed them in trouble with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

Even if Forest do manage to secure another season of top-flight football, they could do with a more targeted approach to signing players.

Could Leicester And Leeds Enter The Race?

Leicester City and Leeds United are both chasing promotion to the Premier League and are available at 14/1 and 16/1 respectively to sign Szmodics.

Both clubs will need to bolster their squads in the summer if they do manage to wrap up a return to the top division.

They would also arrive in the Premier League looking to make an impact rather than simply targeting 17th.

That would make Leicester and Leeds attractive destinations for Szmodics.

However, it is still too early to say with any certainty that the attacking midfielder would consider a move to either the King Power Stadium or Elland Road.

Much will come down to whether either of these sides goes up to the Premier League.
