Next Newcastle United Manager Odds: Who Could Replace Eddie Howe?
Newcastle United’s 2-0 home defeat to struggling West Ham on Monday night has only increased the pressure on manager Eddie Howe.
Newcastle are now 10th in the Premier League after 12 games, a far cry from where Howe and the fans would have expected to be at this stage of the season.
That loss also means it's now three Premier League defeats in five for the Magpies and some supporters have begun to make their feelings known, with betting sites already offering odds on a possible replacement.
Howe can't deny that 10th place in the league heading to December isn't good enough, though he has suffered injuries to a number of key players this season, including the likes of Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman and Anthony Gordon.
He might also argue that he wasn't backed enough in the summer transfer window with a lack of top-quality additions arriving on Tyneside with fresh faces needed to add impetus to the current squad.
If Howe is unable to turn things around, however, and with an international break just around the corner, it’s not out of the question that the Toon’s Saudi owners who paid £300m for the club in 2021 might look to make a change.
So who are the possible candidates to become the next Newcastle United manager should Howe depart St James’ Park?

Allegri Offers Success Appeal
The Magpies may need to hire a manger who can take the club from pretenders to serial winners and bringing in an experienced manager like Massimiliano Allegri could be the final piece of the jigsaw.
The 57-year-old Italian has proven himself at the highest level, and knows what it takes to win major trophies. He's also currently out of work having been sacked by Juventus two days after he led the side to the Italian Cup in May.
He has won multiple league titles during his time in Serie A with Juventus and AC Milan and could prove to be an upgrade on Howe as the Saudi owners look to take the club to the next level with the huge funds available to them. Allegri is currently 2/1 favourite for the role.
Potter In The Pack
Graham Potter stormed up the managerial ranks after impressive spells at Swansea and Brighton, but he came unstuck as Chelsea boss with his tenure lasting just seven months.
He was the Blues' first managerial appointment following Todd Boehly's takeover and oversaw a record £323m outlay in the 2023 January transfer window.
Out of work for over 18 months, Potter has taken plenty of time to reset since leaving Stamford Bridge in April 2023 and recently told The Telegraph "I’m excited to hear what the opportunities are and I’ll take each one and judge it on its merits."
He is currently 11/4 second favourite with betting apps to take over from Howe on Tyneside, and should he be able to recapture his Brighton form he could be a wise appointment.
Rodgers In The Running
Brendan Rodgers is well on course to take Celtic to a fourth Scottish League title with the Hoops now three points clear of second-place Aberdeen and a huge 11 ahead of Rangers in third.
Rodgers is currently in his second spell as Celtic manager having previously left Parkhead to take charge of Leicester City in a move that was far from popular with the club's fans and ended with the Northern Irishman being sacked after four years in charge in 2023.
Prior to that he had led Liverpool to a second-place finish in the Premier League in 2014, just two points behind champions Manchester City.
If the Newcastle job does become available, the challenge of managing a club with a huge fanbase, along with the financial backing of the club's Saudi owners, might be too much for Rodgers to resist and he can be backed at 3/1 for the role.
Hutter's Hat Could Be In The Ring
Adi Hutter has been one of Europe's most exciting managers in recent years, drawing comparisons to the likes of Oliver Glasner, Xabi Alonso and Thomas Tuchel with his style of play.
The 54-year-old led AS Monaco to 2nd in Ligue 1 last season with his attractive brand of attacking football, having initially achieved success with RB Salzburg, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Mönchengladbach.
It was current Toon sporting director Paul Mitchell who appointed him as AS Monaco head coach, who is said to be a big fan of the Austrian manager's tactical approach, so no surprise that Hutter is just 4/1 to be the Magpies' next boss.
Time For Rose To Blossom?
Marco Rose (4/1) first gained recognition as a manager with Red Bull Salzburg, where he secured two Austrian Bundesliga titles.
This success set the stage for his return to Germany, where he has managed Borussia Mönchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund, and now RB Leipzig.
Known for his high-energy, attacking style, Rose achieved notable results with Dortmund and has brought the same dynamic approach to his hometown club, Leipzig.
Under the 48-year-old's leadership, they have positioned themselves as genuine challengers to Bayern this season, bringing Rose to the attention of a number of Premier League sides.
Gareth Southgate Biding His Time
An ex-national team manager in the shape of Gareth Southgate could well fit the Newcastle United remit should they look to replace Howe.
He would follow in the footsteps of another former England boss, Sir Bobby Robson, who, after managing the Three Lions for eight years, took over at Newcastle in September 1999.
Despite saying he was looking to take a year out of management, the former defender has now been able to recharge his batteries after this summer's tournament in Germany and awaits his next challenge.
There are fewer challenges bigger than the Newcastle job and he's currently 9/2 to land the role at St James' Park.
Frank Could Be Good Fit
Should Newcastle's owners be searching for a manager with plenty of Premier League experience, then Brentford boss Thomas Frank (5/1) could fit the bill.
He has guided the Bees to 13th and ninth place finishes in the Premier League, and it's widely thought he could achieve even more should he be handed greater funds.
Speaking on The Sports Agents podcast recently, the 51-year-old said that managing a big club “would not make my life better” but admitted a new job could be a “challenge I need.”
Frank may now feel he's taken Brentford as far as he can and the challenge of managing Newcastle United might be one he can't refuse.
Conceicao Considered A Coup
Sergio Conceicao (6/1) is currently out of work having left Porto after a seven-year spell in the summer.
As the main man at the Estádio do Dragão, the 49-year-old will go down as one of the club's greatest ever coaches.
Domestically, he won three league titles and four cups, while in Europe he guided Porto to two Champions League quarter-finals, the most recent coming in the 2020/21 season.
Conceicao is considered to be one of the hottest managerial prospects in Europe, recently being linked with the Olympique de Marseille post, so if Newcastle could snap him up it would be something of a coup.
Sarri Seeks New Challenge
The has been out of work since leaving Serie A outfit Lazio last March having previously spent a season in the Premier League with Chelsea.
Renowned as a fiery character, Sarri left after just one year at Stamford Bridge having led them finish third in the Premier League, win the Europa League and finish as runners-up in the Carabao Cup.
But if the 65-year-old is looking for a return to the Premier League, then St James' Park could be his next destination with odds of him becoming the next Toon boss currently 13/2 with betting apps.
Ten Hag Has Point To Prove
Having been sacked by Manchester United, Erik ten Hag is 8/1 to make an immediate return to Premier League management by becoming the next Newcastle boss.
With the Red Devils 14th in the Premier League, recording just three wins from their opening nine matches and 21st of 36 teams in the Europa League table, few were surprised by Erik ten Hag's dismissal.
However, the records show that he won three trophies in his time at the club and he is just one of many respected managers to have struggled at Old Trafford, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have plenty to offer a club like Newcastle.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri can be backed at 20/1 to return to England having left Lazio in March.
Mourinho To The Magpies?
Mourinho cut his teeth in football working as assistant to Newcastle legend Sir Bobby Robson at Sporting Lisbon.
But having not been seen in English football since leaving Spurs in 2021, Mourinho is 10/1 with football betting sites to follow in the footsteps of his former mentor and employer on Tyneside.
Rafa Benítez was unable to save the Magpies from relegation in 2016, but earned promotion back to the Premier League the following year by winning the Championship and is 14/1 for a second spell at St James' Park.
