Emma Raducanu Favourite To Win US Open After Being 400/1
Emma Raducanu’s fairytale run at the US Open will end on Saturday in either shocked jubilation or heroic failure. The Brit, who had to come through qualifying at Flushing Meadows this summer, plays in her first Grand Slam final at the age of just 18 this weekend.
And best betting sites have her as favourite to win the US Open women’s singles title ahead of Canadian Leylah Fernandez.
Raducanu’s rise from obscurity – she was ranked 150 in the world heading into the US Open qualifiers – is the stuff dreams are made of. She had only made her Grand Slam bow at Wimbledon a few months ago, where she proved her talent by reaching the fourth round.
Having progressed through the junior ranks in recent years, 2021 was the breakthrough for Raducanu and she has progressed over the year. Yet even since Wimbledon her tournament prowess has largely been on the ITF circuit.
Actually qualifying for the US Open first round is something the majority of tennis hopefuls never achieve. But Raducanu is now just one match away from greatness.
Raducanu US Open Odds
If there is any indication of just how unfathomable Raducanu’s achievement already is, it’s found in the tennis betting odds. At the start of the tournament Raducanu was 400/1 to win the US Open, which carries an implied probability of 0.2% chance of success.
On Saturday she is the 4/6 favourite with Bet365 to beat Fernandez who is an 13/10 shot although in reality there’s nothing between these two teenagers.

Even making the final is a remarkable feat for such a young player, who beat Belinda Bencic and Maria Sakkari (both seeded in the top 17 in New York) to make Saturday’s showdown.
What’s more, Raducanu has been the underdog through every match she has played, which makes the fact she is yet to drop a set during the tournament even more bewildering.
“The time in New York has gone so quickly, I've been taking care of each day and three weeks later I'm in the final. I actually can't believe it,” Raducanu said.
Magnitude of Raducanu Run
To put a potential Raducanu title win into context, it would certainly be one of the biggest upsets in sporting history – from an odds perspective, at least.
Never has a qualifier won a Grand Slam title and Britain hasn’t had a women’s singles champion in the Slams since Virginia Wade won Wimbledon 44 years ago.
But the confidence in Raducanu is evidently there. Indeed, Ladbrokes have revealed 62.5% of all bets on next year's Wimbledon have been placed on the teenager to win that Slam, which has resulted in her odds being driven in from 40/1 to 10/1.
Meanwhile, she is also now favourite to win BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2021 ahead of Olympic gold medal winners Tom Daley and Adam Peaty.
