Next Huddersfield Manager Odds: Buckingham Favourite For Terriers Role

Huddersfield have missed out on a League One play-off spot and betting sites are already offering odds on who could be the club's next manager.
Despite being in and around the promotion mix for much of the campaign after last season’s relegation, Town’s hopes of an immediate return to the Championship have now ended.
A 2-1 defeat to Stockport means the Terriers, currently under the guidance of academy director Jon Worthington, have lost 13 of their past 19 matches.
The downturn has left Huddersfield ninth in the table and eight points adrift of the play-off spots with just two games of the season remaining,
Owner Kevin Nagle recently vowed to make a “lot of changes” heading into next season irrespective of which division the club found itself in.
So could a chaotic season at the John Smith's Stadium be set to take another twist? Let’s take a look at the latest odds should Huddersfield decide to make another switch.
Buckingham Shows Great Promise
Des Buckingham will probably consider himself unlucky to have lost his job as Oxford United manager earlier this season.
He did a fantastic job in leading the U’s to promotion from League One in 2023/24 and had them in a decent position when the club pulled the trigger in December.
Since then, Buckingham has been linked with a number of coaching roles in the EFL and is currently 7/4 favourite to be the next Huddersfield manager.
Next Huddersfield Town Manager Odds:
Manager | Odds | Probability |
Des Buckingham | 7/4 | 36.4% |
Rob Edwards | 2/1 | 33.3% |
Mat Sadler | 3/1 | 25% |
Luke Williams | 4/1 | 20% |
Wayne Rooney | 9/2 | 18.2% |
Gary Naysmith | 5/1 | 16.7% |
David Wagner | 6/1 | 14.3% |
Neill Collins | 8/1 | 11.1% |
Shaun Maloney | 10/1 | 9.1% |
Jon Worthington | 14/1 | 6.7% |
Edwards Ready For New Challenge
It's been a whirlwind couple of years for Rob Edwards. He guided Luton to the Premier League, oversaw their relegation and lost his job after a disappointing first half of the season.
While things ended in disappointment at Luton, it should not be forgotten that Edwards has a promotion from the Championship on his CV and will feel he has plenty to offer.
Whether he is willing to drop down to League One is not known, but Huddersfield could provide the platform for Edwards to show what he can do and he is 2/1 with betting apps to be the next Terriers boss.
Sadler's Future May Lie Elsewhere
Walsall’s form may have nosedived in the second half of the season, but Mat Sadler is still regarded as one of the most promising young managers in the EFL.
The 39-year-old guided the Saddlers to the top of League Two at the turn of the year, but a dramatic slump means his team now find themselves outside of the automatic promotion spots.
Sadler signed a new contract that keeps him at the Bescott Stadium until 2028 back in January, but that was before the wheels fell off his side’s season.
If Walsall were to miss-out on promotion then Mat might be on the move, and he is currently 3/1 to become the next Huddersfield manager.
Williams Has Coaching Acumen
Luke Williams managed to keep Swansea in the Championship last season, but a lack of progress this term led to his dismissal in January.
Williams will be hoping his efforts have been enough to land another role in the second tier of English football and clubs would do well to remember the impressive job he did at Notts County before making the switch to south Wales.
Williams is now 4/1 with to lead Huddersfield next season.
Rooney Ready For Return?
Wayne Rooney was relieved of his managerial duties at Plymouth Argyle at the end of last year.
Although he claimed to be waiting on “the right club” after difficult spells in Devon and with Birmingham City, his hunger to get back into the game is evident.
Although there are no obvious link between Huddersfield and Rooney, he finds himself at odds of 9/2 to be the next manager at the John Smith's Stadium.

Naysmith A New Name In The Frame
Former Everton, Sheffield United and Huddersfield player Gary Naysmith is still finding his feet in terms of his coaching career.
After spells at Queen of the South and Edinburgh City, he was appointed as manager of Scottish League Two side Stenhousemuir in January 2023.
In his first full season in charge he led the club to the Scottish League Two title, helping them to achieve their first ever title after 140 years, and he is now 5/1 to make a dramatic return to the John Smith's Stadium as the next Town boss.
Wagner Return A Real Possibility
David Wagner led the Terriers into the Premier League via the Championship play-offs in 2017, then kept them in the top flight against the odds.
Wagner is 6/1 with football betting sites to be next through the door at Huddersfield and football romantics will hope a return could be on the cards.
The German has not had a great deal of success since leaving Huddersfield, so perhaps the time has come for a reunion.
US Connection Could Prove Key For Collins
Neill Collins began his coaching career with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2018, guiding them to several USL Championship play-off appearances and establishing them as one of the league’s top sides.
In 2023, he returned to the UK to manage Barnsley in League One, earning praise as a promising young coach. However, a five-game winless run led to his dismissal with one match remaining in the 2023/24 season.
Collins has since returned to the United States to take charge of Sacramento FC, a club owned by American businessman and Huddersfield owner Nagle - a connection which sees him installed at 8/1 to be the next boss at the John Smith's Stadium.
Elsewhere, ex-Wigan boss Shaun Maloney is 10/1 while current interim manager Worthington is 14/1 to get the job on a full-time basis.
