Next Wolves Manager Odds: Sergio Conceicao Emerges As Favourite
After a winless start to the Premier League season, UK betting sites have opened a market on who might replace Gary O’Neil as Wolverhampton Wanderers manager.
Wolves ended last term poorly and they are struggling after six games of 2024/25. O’Neil’s team took the lead against Aston Villa at the weekend, only to lose 3-1.
They have collected only one point from the first 18 available and are now bottom of the table ahead of a difficult game against Liverpool on Saturday.
O’Neil signed a new long-term contract at Molineux earlier this year, committing his future to the club until 2028.
That should buy him some more time, but football is a results business and O’Neil will find himself under pressure unless Wolves start climbing up the table.
Who could replace the former Bournemouth boss if he does depart? Let’s take a look at the odds offered by the football betting sites.

Rob Edwards | 4/1 | 20% |
Steven Gerrard | 6/1 | 14.3% |
Carlos Corberan | 7/1 | 12.5% |
Patrick Vieira | 8/1 | 11.1% |
John Eustace | 10/1 | 9.1% |
Frank Lampard | 14/1 | 6.7% |
Conceicao Top Of The Betting
Sergio Conceicao is the 6/5 favourite to be next through the door at Molineux. The Portuguese is currently out of work having left Porto, with whom he won three league titles and five domestic cups, in the summer.
It is no secret that Wolves have deep Portuguese connections via their link with superagent Jorge Mendes.
Conceicao is a Mendes client, so that would boost his chances of landing the Wolves job. After seven years at Porto, he might be ready for a new challenge in England.
Moyes Waiting For His Next Role
David Moyes left West Ham United at the end of last season after a broadly excellent second spell at the club.
Eventually his pragmatic tactics turned off the West Ham fan base, but no one can argue with the results he achieved at the London Stadium, not least in Europe.
Moyes has kept Everton and West Ham in the Premier League in the past, and his experience would be an asset for Wolves. He can be backed at 2/1 with betting apps.
Knutsen Would Be Interesting Pick
Kjetil Knutsen, priced at 3/1, would be a left-field choice.
He has been linked with numerous Premier League jobs in the past, but the 55-year-old has now been at the helm of Bodo/Glimt since 2018.
Knutsen has done a fine job there, winning three Norwegian titles and achieving some eye-catching results in continental competition. Still, it would be something of a gamble to bring him straight to the Premier League.
Benitez Yet To Decide Where He Goes Next
Rafael Benitez is still considering where he wants to manage next, although the Spaniard recently suggested that he would not necessarily enjoy a firefighting job with a club around the relegation zone.
However, that could be offset by his desire to return to the Premier League and Benitez has made no secret of the fact he enjoys working in England, where he retains a family home.
Odds of 7/2 are available on the former Liverpool boss joining Wolves as their next permanent head coach.
Edwards In The Running After Luton Exploits
Rob Edwards led Luton Town to promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, then did a good job as they attempted to upset the odds by avoiding relegation.
The Hatters did not quite manage to survive, but Edwards left the top flight with an improved reputation.
Luton have had a tricky start to life back in the second tier - they sit 15th in the table after six games - but Edwards has not lost any of his coaching acumen. Even so, he is a dark horse for the Wolves role at a current price of 4/1.
Gerrard Could Be Tempted Back To England
Steven Gerrard’s last job in England did not go well, as he took Aston Villa to the brink of the relegation zone before being replaced by Unai Emery.
He is now working in Saudi Arabia, where he has led Al-Ettifaq since the summer of 2023.
Gerrard is on a huge salary in the Pro League and he will no doubt be reluctant to give that up.
However, if he still wants to coach at a high level in Europe he probably needs to return sooner rather than later. Gerrard is 6/1 to replace O’Neil.
