Rotherham are looking for a new manager following their decision to part ways with Steve Evans and the best betting sites have odds on who will be in the dugout next.

The 62-year-old Scot, who was in his second spell as Millers boss, had come under fire from fans after a 4-0 home defeat by relegation-threatened Crawley Town, which pushed Rotherham down to 16th place in the table.

The club confirmed in a statement that they had parted company with Evans, along with his backroom staff Paul Raynor, Gary Mills and Ian Pledger.

Former coach Matt Hamshaw, who served as caretaker boss of Derby County last month, has been appointed to take temporary charge until the end of the season, and he has made an impressive start to life in the dugout.

The defeat by Crawley, a club Evans guided into the Football League earlier in his managerial career, was the Millers' heaviest of the season and prompted some supporters at New York Stadium to call for his dismissal.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield after the game, Evans said: "There's no hiding place when you have a performance like that. The performance was limp, way off the minimum standards we expect.

"Everything that my teams have been famous for was not deployed. I think this is as low as it's been in 31 years as a manager."

Gambling.com has taken a look at those in contention when it comes to the next Rotherham manager.

Hamshaw Has Made The Perfect Start

Following Evans' departure, Matt Hamshaw was put in charge of first-team affairs at Rotherham until the end of the season, and he has quickly turned around the club's fortunes on the pitch.

He won his first three games in charge, staking a claim to be named boss permanently, but suffered his first defeat when beaten 3-1 away to promotion-chasing Stockport.

Hamshaw was a key member of Paul Warne's staff at Rotherham and Derby and is a highly rated coach in English football.

The 43-year-old now has four games left this season to impress, and if he can continue his good start, he is likely to land the role.

Bookmakers currently have him priced as the 4/5 favourite.

Williams A Wanted Man

Luke Williams might be the right person to lead Rotherham’s rebuild next season.

He impressed as manager of Notts County, guiding them to promotion from the National League and laying the foundation for a play-off push in League Two before moving to Swansea City.

Last season, he steered the Swans to a respectable 14th-place finish, but this year proved more difficult.

With the team down in 17th, he was dismissed, and now he’s in need of a fresh opportunity - something Rotherham could well provide.

At 43, Williams is seen as a young and ambitious coach in the Football League, which could be to his advantage.

He looks to be a strong contender for the Rotherham role and can be backed at 2/1 for the job with betting apps.

Duff Ready For First English Role

Damien Duff has made an impressive start to his managerial career in his native Ireland.

The former Blackburn and Chelsea winger led Shelbourne to the League of Ireland title last season and made a decent start to the current campaign.

There are not many success stories from League of Ireland managers who have moved to English clubs, but Duff has the potential to buck that trend.

He is still somewhat inexperienced in the dugout, but his enthusiasm could be precisely what Rotherham need right now.

Duff has recently stated that he will stay at Shelbourne as long as they want him, but if The Millers come calling, that could quickly change.

The ex-Republic of Ireland international has drifted to 9/4 to take over at the New York Stadium.

Evatt Can Offer Plenty

Ian Evatt's four-and-a-half-year spell in charge of Bolton came to an end in January after a home defeat to Charlton, and he may now be looking for his next challenge.

Football betting sites have him at 3/1 for the role, and it's likely Rotherham would at least include him on their shortlist, with other clubs no doubt having him on their radar.

While things may have ended on a sour note at Bolton, the 43-year-old is still seen as a progressive coach with plenty to bring to the table.

Does The Bell Toll For Lee?

Lee Bell (6/1) became Crewe manager in 2022 and has gained a reputation for focusing on young talent and youth development.

In his first season in the job, he guided the Railwaymen to 13th in League Two, and the following campaign, he secured a play-off final appearance at Wembley, which ended in defeat to Crawley.

Once again, his side are battling for a post-season berth, but a chance to move up a division with Rotherham could be tough to turn down for the ambitious 42-year-old manager.

Wigan recently sacked Shaun Maloney with the Latics 15th in League One, only six points above the relegation places, but he can be backed at 9/2 for a return to management with the Millers.

Elsewhere, ex-boss Paul Warne (7/1), Des Buckingham (8/1), Garry Monk (9/1) and former Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney (12/1) are all thought to be in the frame.

Former Luton manager Rob Edwards has also recently entered the market, and can be backed at 10/1.
