Rotherham United are conducting the search for a new manager following their decision to recently sack Matt Taylor and the best betting sites have odds on who will be in the dugout next.

The club are languishing near the bottom of the Championship and it was decided that the former Exeter City boss wasn’t the right man to continue in the job, with chairman Tony Stewart now taking his time when it comes to making an appointment.

It appears as though there have been a number of high calibre candidates who have applied for the vacant position and perhaps one of these is Leam Richardson.

Richardson heads the betting following a year out of management and as a free agent, he would be a cost-effective appointment.

Another duo of managers trading short in the odds right now are former Derby boss Gary Rowett and former Stoke boss Nathan Jones.

Richardson Also Among Favourites for Millers Job

Leam Richardson may be less experienced than the majority of the potential candidates for the Rotherham manager vacancy, although the 43-year-old does have the benefit of being a free agent and therefore leads the market.

The former Accrington defender started his coaching career in charge of Stanley for a brief spell, although it's his time with Wigan Athletic that might persuade Rotherham to take a chance on his services.

Having been assistant manager to Paul Cook with the Latics, he was able to make the step up during the 2020/21 season and keep Wigan afloat in League One.

The following year, Richardson was able to steer the Lancashire outfit to automatic promotion after winning the League One title.

He was then sacked in November 2022 and has been a free agent since. You'll find him as a 2/1 shot for the Millers’ post with Parimatch

Rowett Could Be On Rotherham's Shortlist

Gary Rowett’s four-year spell with Millwall recently came to an end and perhaps the former Birmingham City boss could be open for a quick return to Championship management.

The 49-year-old has seen his odds shorten in the past few days from 14/1 into 4/1 with betting apps.

An eighth place finish with Millwall last season may have seen them narrowly miss out on the play-offs, but the season was deemed a successful one nevertheless.

It could be last season's achievements with the London club that calls the Millers into action for his signature.

Jones And Hasselbaink Worth Monitoring

Less than a week ago, Nathan Jones was a 33/1 outsider for the role, however, the former Luton boss is now an 8/1 joint third-favourite to take control of the Millers.

Jones has been out of a job for nine months since he was sacked as Southampton manager back in February and he could opt to get back management with the Championship outfit.

The 50-year-old has history of over-performing in the second tier and was named Championship Manager of the Year in 2021-22 thanks to his sixth-placed finish with Luton.

Given his Championship knowledge, Jones could be an intelligent recruit for a struggling Rotherham side.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink joins Jones at a price of 8/1 with BetVictor.

The Dutchman has been out of a managers job since his departure from Burton Albion back in 2022, but has worked with the England national team this year alongside former Middlesbrough teammate Gareth Southgate.

It could be here where the 51-year-old has advanced his coaching acumen, therefore making him a potentially astute acquisition for the Millers.

With prior managerial experience in the Championship with Queens Park Rangers, the former Chelsea striker has existing knowledge of what it takes to be competitive at this level.

Would Evans Leave Stevenage For Rotherham Return?

Steve Evans is a colourful character who has a strong managerial track record, and the 61-year-old enjoyed a hugely successful spell with Rotherham the first time around.

In his first full season in charge of the Millers, he was able to achieve automatic promotion from League Two, while the 2013/14 campaign saw United land victory in the League One play-off final.

Evans was then able to keep Rotherham afloat in the Championship before leaving in September 2015, however the latest price of 10/1 with football betting sites is somewhat higher than the 3/1 that was available a few days ago.

He’s currently in charge of a Stevenage side who enjoyed automatic promotion from League Two against the odds last season and they’re faring better than expected in League One at the time of writing.

Carlisle, Lennon Or Wilder Could Be The Answer

Interim manager Wayne Carlisle has seen his price shorten drastically over the weekend following Rotherham's 1-1 draw with Leeds on Friday.

The 44-year-old has no managerial experience, although their spirited display against a dangerous Leeds side will have done his chances of securing the job a world of good.

Carlisle is clearly held in high regard by the Millers players, but it is unclear as to whether the Northern Irishman wants the job on a full-time basis.

He is available at odds of 12/1 with a list of bookmakers should you wish to back an outsider.

Neil Lennon (12/1) has prior Championship experience with Bolton Wanderers and could be in line to take charge at the New York Stadium in the coming days.

The 52-year-old has been out of work since his departure from Greek side Omonia, and the opportunity to jump back into the second tier of English football could entice him.

Chris Wilder (16/1) is someone with a proven track record in the Championship and that was particularly the case when taking charge of Sheffield United.

Having steered the Blades from League One to the second flight, it didn’t take the 56-year-old long to engineer promotion to the Premier League during the 2018/19 season and this might be something of a coup for Rotherham.
