Portugal Vs Slovenia Betting Tips: The Panel's Best Bets & Euro 2024 Predictions

Portugal Vs Slovenia Betting Tips

For the first time in his illustrious career, Cristiano Ronaldo failed to score a goal in the group stage of a major tournament.

However, he did pass up a goalscoring opportunity to provide an assist for Bruno Fernandes to score Portugal's third against Turkey.

Every game from now on could be Ronaldo's last at a major tournament and the 39-year-old will be keen to make it a special summer for his country. Slovenia stand between Portugal and a place in the quarter-finals.

Portugal were embarrassed by Georgia in their final group game and they will not underestimate their round of 16 opponents, who drew all three group matches.

Slovenia are the rank outsiders with the best betting sites at 350/1 to win Euro 2024, while Portugal are 8/1 with BetVictor to replicate their 2016 success.

Portugal are odds-on favourites to advance to the quarter-finals, but Slovenia will be encouraged by how Slovakia and Georgia took the game to England and Spain on Sunday.

Gambling.com's football experts on The Panel have studied the odds to bring you two predictions for Portugal vs Slovenia.

Portugal Vs Slovenia Prediction: Cerin To Be Booked

Slovenia and Portugal have been fairly disciplined teams at the European Championship, picking up a combined 13 yellow cards between them over the three group games.

Only Albania have committed fewer fouls than the 25 of Portugal, who have received seven bookings compared with Slovenia’s six.

Remarkably, Slovenia midfielder Adam Gnezda Cerin has yet to draw the attention of referees at Euro 2024, despite having given away nine free-kicks during his nation’s campaign.

Three fouls per match and still to be booked is quite a feat, but now we’re at the all-or-nothing phase of the knockouts, the likelihood of players committing ‘technical fouls’ starts to increase.

Cerin actually scored in a 2-0 victory over Portugal in a friendly in March and incredibly is 30/1 with betting apps to repeat the trick, but with only one shot on target so far, that market is probably best avoided.

Instead, the first of The Panel’s Portugal vs Slovenia predictions is for Cerin to receive a card at 7/2 with QuinnBet.

Portugal Vs Slovenia Prediction: Portugal To Bounce Back

Portugal lost 2-0 to Georgia in their final group game, ending a 12-game winning streak in competitive matches.

However, Roberto Martinez's side had already secured the top spot in Group F and rested key players like Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes and Ruben Dias – so The Panel expect a very different outcome on Monday night.

This time, Portugal are expected to field their strongest line-up for their opening knockout fixture, and could start with the same XI that secured an impressive 3-0 win over Turkey in their second group fixture.

That victory was probably the standout result from Ronaldo and co. so far this summer, with the best of one of the pre-tournament favourites with football betting sites possibly yet to come.

They were the only team to win all 10 games in the qualifying stages, scoring 36 goals and conceding just two, and will have to find that form in a tough half of the draw that would see them face France or Belgium in the quarter-finals if they advance.

Slovenia, to their credit, held England, Denmark and Serbia to draws to get this far and actually beat Portugal in the aforementioned friendly just over three months ago.

Up to now, they have relied on a rigid shape and style to frustrate their opponents, backed up by a strong defence led by experienced goalkeeper Jan Oblak, and that's unlikely to change.

But Portugal are due to come good in this tournament and The Panel believe their superior attack and robust defence should be enough to see them through in Frankfurt.
