Premier League Predictions Gameweek 10 - Mark Lawrenson On The Panel

Mark Lawrenson's Premier League Predictions

With Brian McClair on international duty, we've brought on a more than adequate substitute in the form of former Liverpool, Brighton and Republic of Ireland defender Mark Lawrenson for this week's Premier League Predictions.

Lawrenson began his career at Brighton and his skills as a tough-tackling yet composed and cultured central defender quickly attracted the attention of a number of top flight clubs.

He signed for Liverpool in 1981 for £900,000, a then record fee for a defender, and enjoyed a distinguished career at Anfield.

His honours include five First Division titles, a European Cup, three League Cups and an FA Cup with the Reds, while he was capped 39 times by the Republic of Ireland.

Lawro joins The Panel to give his score predictions for all of this week's games whilst the team examine the best football betting sites to find the best odds should his predictions hit the back of the net.

Watch him discuss the games below and keep an eye on how Lawro and The Panel get on.

Newcastle Vs Arsenal, Saturday, 12:30pm

Arsenal head to Newcastle on Saturday with the chance to put pressure on their Premier League title rivals.

The Gunners ensured Liverpool did not open up a sizeable gap on them by securing a 2-2 draw on Sunday, though will no doubt have been disappointed not to have won after twice taking the lead.

Newcastle are formidable opponents at home but have endured a difficult start to the season and last week lost 2-1 to Chelsea before getting their revenge against the Blues in a 2-0 Carabao Cup victory on Wednesday night, but are without a win in five league games.

Lawro says: “This is a huge fixture after the games these two played last weekend.

“I’m not convinced by Newcastle defensively if I'm honest with you, though they are missing two of their key players at the back.

“There’s something about Arsenal this season, they have a bit more aggression, and it looks like they’re growing up a bit and have a real chance of winning the title in my opinion, but they could drop points here."

Lawro's Panel Pick 1: Newcastle 1-1 Arsenal - 11/2 with Betovo

Liverpool Vs Brighton, Saturday, 3pm

Liverpool will look to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they welcome Brighton to Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Arne Slot’s side dropped points for only the second time this season when twice coming from behind to draw 2-2 with Arsenal at the Emirates last Sunday - a stalemate coupled with Man City’s 1-0 win over Southampton saw the Reds surrender top spot.

The Seagulls threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Wolves at the Amex last Saturday and Fabian Hurzeler’s side will make the trip to Merseyside occupying sixth place in the Premier League table having lost to their opponents 3-2 in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Lawro says: “Liverpool have done extremely well under Arne Slot, but we don’t really know too much yet because the shoes he fell into were already so good.

“Nothing at Liverpool is broken and doesn’t need fixing, it might need some oiling now and again, but they will keep rolling on.

“Brighton have been impressive this season, but I can’t see past a home win.”

Lawro's Panel Pick 2: Liverpool 3-1 Brighton - 8/1 with Betovo

Man Utd Vs Chelsea, Sunday, 4:30pm

Manchester United host Chelsea in a huge Premier League clash on Sunday.

It is the first League fixture for United since the sacking of Erik ten Hag earlier this week, with interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy claiming a 5-2 win in his first game in charge against Leicester in the Carabao Cup.

The Blues, meanwhile, followed up their Cole Palmer-inspired 2-1 win over Newcastle with a 2-0 defeat against the same opponents in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night and Enzo Maresca’s side have lost only once on the road in the league this season.

Lawro says: “We know what happens don’t we, the manager gets sacked, the assistant takes over and then wins the game.

“I saw Chelsea last weekend, they’re good going forward but defensively there is still a lot do.

“Even teams like Newcastle, who have been struggling going forward, are creating opportunities against them and I think that’s where Chelsea’s problems are going to be for a while. It's a guaranteed United win."

Lawro's Panel Pick 3: Man Utd 2-0 Chelsea - 12/1 with Betovo
