Liverpool have made their marquee signing of the summer by capturing Darwin Nunez, with the Merseyside club likely to end up paying £85m for the Uruguayan who will arrive in England with a formidable goal-scoring reputation.

While Nunez is relatively unknown when it comes to world football compared to Manchester City new boy Erling Haaland, the bottom line is that the 22-year-old is likely to be a regular starter under Jurgen Klopp next season.

Many betting sites have already started to put together some Darwin Nunez betting specials on a player who pilfered 32 goals in 57 appearances for Benfica during his time at the Portuguese club between 2020-2022.

More pertinently, he scored 26 in 28 last season and the performance level was enough to catch the eye of Liverpool.

Many even regard Nunez as a like-for-like replacement for the reportedly departing Sadio Mane.

Nunez 16/1 To Be 2022/23 Premier League Top Scorer

While Erling Haaland might head the Premier League top scorer betting after his big money move to Manchester City, UK bookmakers are prepared to offer a bigger price about Darwin Nunez topping the charts.

That’s despite the fact that the Uruguayan averaged nearly a goal per game in Portugal last term.

Football betting sites are offering 16/1 on the LFC new boy repeating Mohamed Salah’s achievement during the Egyptian’s first season in a red shirt by landing the top scorer prize.

It’s clear that he will be given plenty of game time and has demonstrated that he has a capacity to find the net on a regular basis.

You can also get 50/1 that he is able to break the current Premier League scoring record and go past the 32-goal mark.

A bundle of goals from Nunez would obviously boost Liverpool’s hopes of securing another Premier League title. That's why William Hill are prepared to chalk up 28/1 that the former Almeria man not only fires himself to the top scorer prize, but also helps the Reds become champions when it comes to the final standings.

Can Nunez Outscore Salah, Diaz And Jota Next Season?

Sadio Mane is likely to reach an agreement with Bayern Munich shortly and that means that Nunez will be competing with Mohamed Salah, Luiz Diaz and Diogo Jota for places next term, while there could also be a rivalry when it comes to racking up a nice tally of goals.

Betfair have 9/4 that the Liverpool man is able to outscore his team-mates on a domestic front and it could be that Salah poses the biggest problem given the Egyptian’s pedigree since he arrived at the club from Roma - although it could be an interesting tussle.

Nunez will want to score in the big EPL games and that includes scoring against Liverpool’s title rivals. You can currently get 8/1 that he finds the net against Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United along with Everton.

Scoring in a Merseyside derby will clearly be on the striker’s checklist, and he’ll be aware of the magnitude of these games.

William Hill Doubt Nunez Can Hit 20 Goal Mark for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp

Perhaps it might take Darwin Nunez a little time to find his feet in England, with William Hill relatively dismissive when it comes to the Uruguayan notching 20 for the coming domestic campaign.

They are currently offering 4/1 that the imposing forward is able to reach this landmark.

It’s likely that this will be the minimum target for a player who is likely to be starting the majority of Premier League matches and the bookies also offer 16/1 that Nunez can score 25 goals or more for his new club, although the slight downside is that he’s unlikely to be on penalty kicks and it’s a big ask to therefore reach this total.

Mohammed Salah is likely to be on spot kick duty although there could be a healthy competition between the two players when it comes to goal tallies.

Nunez is a 3/1 chance to outscore the Egyptian King and you can get the same odds that he is able to edge Erling Haaland out when it comes to the scoring charts.

Can Nunez Hit Ground Running and Break Some Records?

Make no mistake, this is a heavyweight Liverpool signing and Nunez has already spoken about his desire to win trophies.

The 22-year-old has signed a six-year deal at the Merseyside club, and he will be looking to rack up the goals from an early stage.

Paddy Power have a stonking 40/1 that the forward scores in each of LFC’s first five Premier League games, while there’s a more modest 9/1 that he scores in the first three.

It might not be too long before Nunez grabs his first match ball in a Reds game and Betfair offer 11/10 that the forward scores one or more hat-tricks in the Premier League next term.

Those feeling more confident about a three-timer can get 13/2 that there are at least two hat-tricks banked between August and May, while 33/1 is available if you think this achievement can be managed three times.

There are some other lumpy prices at William Hill such as the 55/1 that the former Benfica forward scores in the FA Cup and League Cup final.

Meanwhile, there is 20/1 available that he wins next season’s PFA Player of the Year and there is twice the price that Darwin Nunez scoops next year’s Ballon d’Or, which could be a possibility if he can also shine for Uruguay.

Nunez has spoken about watching Liverpool in the Champions League and wanting to enjoy more European success with this historic club.

He’s among the favourites to be top scorer in the European Cup next season and Hills make him a 12/1 shot, while there is a price of 15/2 that he scores in the UCL final and 750/1 that he does it against former club Benfica.
