Best Odds: England Evens, Pakistan 10/11

Betting sites consider there is precious little between England and Pakistan, with many making it 10/11 each - but you can find England at Evens if you search around.

England went some way towards redeeming their credibility in world cricket with a good all-round performance against The Netherlands on Wednesday. The big question is, can they carry that good feel factor into this match with Pakistan?

The historic Eden Gardens cricket ground is one of the oldest in the world and is renowned for its cricket-crazed crowds.

This is the fourth match in the 2023 Cricket World Cup to be played at the ground, and it will also host the semi-final match between South Africa and Australia on Thursday.

The first test match at the venue was in 1934 between England and India. The two teams also competed in the first T20 International at the ground in 2011.

There has always been a fierce rivalry between Pakistan and England in the cricket world, and the stage is set for another memorable clash between the two teams.

The Match Result Is Too Tough To Call

The Cricket World Cup odds would suggest that this match could swing either way and from what we have seen of both teams so far, there is little to choose between them when they find their top games.

In the nine times that there has been a result between the two teams when meeting in the Cricket World Cup, Pakistan is marginally in front with five wins, the latest in 2019 when they won by 14 runs.

To reach the semi-finals, Pakistan will need to win this match by a considerable margin if they are going to overhaul New Zealand.

The Kiwis already have 10 points on the board after dismantling Sri Lanka on Thursday in their last game of the group stages of the event.

England needs to win to ensure an automatic spot in the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan in 2025, but they are almost certainly there already, and only a string of ‘impossible’ results can knock them out of the top eight.

Eden Gardens is generally considered a ground that is kind to batters. The three 2023 World Cup games played here so far have seen Bangladesh twice fail to see out their innings.

South Africa did not even get a sniff of reaching 100 runs when destroyed at this ground on Sunday by an unstoppable Indian side, who had already raced to 326 runs. Perhaps it is not such a friendly place for batters after all.

There is no sensible play with cricket betting sites on the outright winner. England and Pakistan are both capable on their day, and better opportunities are available elsewhere.

Stokes To Be England's Top-Scorer

Ben Stokes was majestic in the game against The Netherlands on Wednesday, scoring an excellent 108 runs that included six sixes and six fours.

Stokes did not play in the first three games of this World Cup, but in the five matches since, he has been England’s top batsman on three occasions, which is an excellent return by any metric.

He is the current form player and can again head the England batting statistics.

Unsurprisingly, UK bookmakers have Dawid Malan heading the market, and he tops the betting with Coral offering 7/2 for him to be England’s top scorer.

Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow are next in at 4/1, with Stokes a stand-alone 5/1 with Cricket World Cup betting sites.

Root Can Pass The 30-Run Test

By his standards, Joe Root has had a World Cup that he will be pleased to put behind him.

After a bright opening couple of matches at the beginning of the tournament, scoring 77 and 82, his next four knocks were moderate, to say the least.

However, his efforts against Australia and The Netherlands were a touch more encouraging.

He will be more determined than most to set the record straight here, and we know he is more than capable when finding his rhythm.

Bet365 have produced a Run Milestones market, and Root can be backed at 5/6 to score 30 runs or more. That looks like a reachable target.
