Stoke parted company with manager Narcis Pelach after their latest defeat which prompted betting sites to consider potential replacements to take charge of the Championship strugglers.

Pelach was shown the door just three months into his reign following a 2-0 loss at home to Leeds.

Sporting director Jon Walters took full responsibility for the appointment of Pelach, who won just three games in the Championship since replacing Steven Schumacher on a three-year deal in September.

Walters said: "Narcis is a talented coach with huge potential. He works relentlessly hard and I have no doubt that he will go on to achieve success in the future.

"However, with the way results and performances have been in recent weeks, we have to accept with hindsight that he has proved not to be the right fit for this club at this time."

Ryan Shawcross has been named caretaker manager once again and the former Stoke defender made a dream start to his temporary reign with a last-minute victory over Sunderland.

But who will be named the Potters’ third manager of the season on a permanent basis?

We take a look at the candidates and the latest next Stoke manager odds.

Robins In The Driving Seat

It can only be a matter of time before a club snap up Mark Robins, whose spell as the Championship’s longest-serving manager was ended in November.

Robins spent seven and a half years at Coventry during which he steered the club from League Two to the Championship.

The Sky Blues were also penalty shoot-outs away from reaching the Premier League and the FA Cup final in consecutive seasons, so his status as one of the club’s greatest ever managers is assured.

Robins has been linked with several vacancies since his dismissal, but he is the 11/10 favourite with betting apps to start a new challenge at the bet365 Stadium.

Cooper Next In Line

Steve Cooper was axed by Leicester less than three weeks after Robins was cruelly sacked by Coventry.

Cooper oversaw just 12 games at the King Power Stadium, but few can forget his remarkable achievement at Nottingham Forest in the 2021/22 season.

The Welshman took charge in September 2021 when Forest propped up the Championship table and his inspirational leadership led the club to a top-six finish, beating Huddersfield in the play-off final.

Another promotion run would appear unlikely more than halfway through the season, but City are just 12 points off the top six despite being 18th in the table, so it’s not an impossibility.

Cooper is 3/1 with football betting sites to start a new challenge with Stoke and potentially pull off another miracle.

Could Carsley Drive Potters’ Wheel?

Lee Carsley helped England reach the top tier of the Nations League after taking temporary charge of the Three Lions following Gareth Southgate’s decision to stand down after the Euro 2024 final.

Carsley won the European U21 Championship last year and his reign as England head coach went relatively smoothly aside from a home defeat by Greece before he passed over the baton to Thomas Tuchel.

The former Everton midfielder is back in his day job as head coach of the England Under-21 team, but could he be lured back to club management?

Carsley has been a club careteker manager three times, twice at Coventry and once at Birmingham, so a vacancy at another Midlands club may be tempting.

BetVictor makes Carsley 10/1 to be the next permanent manager of Stoke.

Mowbray Lacks Appeal Without New Update

Tony Mowbray has plenty of managerial experience at this level and is also 10/1 to be appointed Stoke boss.

However, it is unclear whether Mowbray is actively looking for a new role, having taken medical leave while at Birmingham in February for what was later revealed as bowel cancer.

Mowbray resigned from the position two weeks after the end of the season which saw Brum relegated and in September he admitted he was “still a bit weak”, lacking the energy required to manage a club.

Until Mowbray provides fresh input into his condition, it is probably best to avoid the former Blackburn and Middlesbrough manager as a potential replacement for Pelach.

Matt Bloomfield and Mat Sadler are both making waves at Wycombe and Walsall respectively and are also available at 10/1.

Russell Martin A Dark Horse

Former Southampton boss Russell Martin is the favourite for the Rangers job should Philippe Clement be sacked, but he is 12/1 to stay in England and become Stoke’s head coach.

Gary O’Neil is also looking for a new job following his dismissal by Wolves and he can be backed at 12/1, the same odds as David Moyes.

The Scot remains out of work since leaving West Ham at the end of last season, but he may think he deserves another shot with a Premier League club.

Elsewhere, former Plymouth and Preston manager Ryan Lowe is 14/1 to fill the Stoke vacancy.
