Paris 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony: Lady Gaga And Celine Dion Among Favourites

Paris 2024 kicks off with a mouth-watering opening ceremony on Friday, and speculation has been rife about who might perform.

While the likes of Celine Dion and Dua Lipa have been at the top of the market on betting sites, pop megastar Lady Gaga has now ousted the pair as the odds-on favourite.

It comes after the Poker Face hitmaker was spotted arriving in the French capital.

Gaga - who sang legendary late French singer Edith Piaf’s La Vie en Rose in the movie A Star in Born - is said to have been rehearsing for the spectacle.

As well as that, there have been plenty of other musings about who might perform at what will be an historic spectacle.

It will be the first time in the summer Games' history that the opening ceremony doesn't take place in one stadium, with Paris 2024 organisers preferring to stage it in the heart of the city along the famous River Seine.

Gaga Odds-On

Gaga is just 1/4 on specials betting sites to provide some opening ceremony entertainment at this summer's Olympics, after she and her boyfriend Michael Polansky were spotted in Paris this week, fuelling speculation.

Should she perform, it is rumoured she will sing La Vie en Rose.

Other music legends who could take part in the historic Olympic opening ceremony include Celine Dion.

The Canadian star has been extremely honest and open about suffering from Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) - a progressive neurological disorder that affects her muscles - following her 2022 diagnosis.

Dion shone a light on the disease in recent documentary I Am: Celine Dion, which included some tough-to-watch footage of her suffering a 10-minute seizure, but the determined star could be about to return to the global stage in style.

Last month, it was reported Dion had been offered the chance to perform at the Paris 2024 opening ceremony, and she is just 1/2 on betting apps to take to the banks of the Seine.

French drummer and composer Marc Cerrone is Evens to the opening ceremony, the same price on new betting sites as French-Malian singer-songwriter Aya Nakamura is to perform.

What's more, like Gaga and Dion, Dua Lipa is odds-on in the market.

Fresh from headlining Glastonbury, Lipa looks set to wow the world in Paris, while American singer Ariana Grande is just 2/1.

She is known to be a fan of France, and even named her pet pooch Toulouse, after the French city - which is also known as The Pink City - and the kitten from Disney's The Aristocats.

Other stars expected to be in contention include Rita Ora (3/1), Nicole Scherzinger (4/1), and French singer-songwriter Slimane - who represented the country at this year's Eurovision, finishing fourth - is 8/1.

Daft Distance Themselves

French electronic music duo Daft Punk were previously heavily rumoured to be taking part in the opening ceremony.

However, it doesn't look like they will perform.

Thomas Jolly, artistic director of the Paris 2024 ceremonies, raised the world's hopes when he told French radio station France Inter: "Daft Punk would be very happy to be part of the ceremony.

"You can’t not think of Daft Punk when you think of a successful international showcase for a French group."

However, Jolly later insisted Daft Punk aren't part of the opening ceremony's line-up.

In October, wrote on X: "My comments were confusing and generated a lot of expectations.

"I must clarify: After discussing a possible presence at the ceremony, the group's decision is not to participate. I respect this decision and apologise for the ambiguity of my comments."

Despite this, the duo are still 14/1 to take part. Stranger things have happened in the Olympics.
