What You Can Bet on in New Jersey

You're clear to bet on most major and minor sports leagues in New Jersey, including:

There are some important exceptions to note, which we'll cover below.

Here are the major leagues and teams that have a presence in New Jersey:

New York Giants

Contrary to what their names suggest, there are actually two NFL teams that call New Jersey home: the New York Giants and the New York Jets. Both play at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. As such, NFL betting sites provide lots of chances to wager on NJ's home teams.

Founded in 1925, the New York Giants are one of the NFL's most storied franchises. Throughout their rich history, they've claimed eight championship titles, including two memorable Super Bowl victories in a five-year span during the Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin era.

However, recent seasons have seen them drift from these past glories. Nevertheless, we track the latest New York Giants odds right here.

New York Jets

Originating in 1959 as the Titans of New York, the Jets adopted their current name in 1964 and have been a constant presence in the league since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970.

Competing in the AFC East, the Jets have claimed two division championships in the NFL. Their Super Bowl appearance in 1968, under the AFL banner, remains their last. This places them alongside the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns, who have never reached the Super Bowl, as one of the teams with the longest absence from the championship game in the NFL.

You can track the current New York Jets odds with Gambling.com.

New York Red Bulls

The New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer play in Harrison, NJ, at Red Bull Arena. They originally entered the league as the New York/New Jersey MetroStars in 1996 but rebranded in 2006 when Red Bull purchased the team.

Since their initial founding, the Red Bulls have six first-place finishes in their conference and competed for one MLS Cup, ultimately losing to the Columbus Crew in 2008.

Soccer betting sites in general have a heavy international focus, but you'll find more MLS betting sites in New Jersey and other U.S. states.

New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils, named for the fabled Jersey Devil, have played in the state since 1982. They currently play home games at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. All three of the franchise's Stanley Cup wins have come in New Jersey.

NHL betting sites allow New Jersey bettors to wager on futures (like the eventual Stanley Cup winner), game lines, props, and parlays.

NCAA D1 College Teams

The Princeton Tigers, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Seton Hall Pirates, Fairleigh Dickinson Knights are some of the most prominent and successful Division I basketball and football teams in New Jersey. However, it's worth taking note of the schools that don't play within state lines.

Why? New Jersey does not allow wagering on college basketball betting sites or college football betting sites on in-state teams, like those listed above. You can bet on games and player props on out-of-state college teams only.

Some popular nearby options include the St. John's Red Storm, the Syracuse Orange, the Penn State Nittany Lions, the Pitt Panthers, and the Villanova Wildcats.

Online sports betting is legal in New Jersey.

New Jersey has been a leader in popularizing legal sports betting across the United States. In recent years, it has become a key player in the industry, particularly after 2018 legislative changes.

Playing at an NJ online casino is also available when being 21 or over.

New Jersey Sports Betting Legislation & Regulation

Gov. Phil Murphy signed Assembly Bill 4111 into law on June 11, 2018, a month after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PAPSA), which prohibited sports betting outside Nevada. The NJ bill allowed legal online sports betting, as well as betting at racetracks and casinos.

With sports bettors wagering billions of dollars in New Jersey since its adoption of legal sports gambling, the state ensures to make sports betting legal thanks to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

The New Jersey Casino Control Commission oversees all gambling across the state, and the Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), a leg of the casino control commission, enforces the state's Casino Control Act for sports gambling both in-person and online.

The DGE issues casino-related licenses, audits casino operations in several places such as Atlantic City, tests gaming platforms and investigates any crimes related to gambling.
